Reading Shakespeare and understanding him are two different things for me. I’m not sure about anyone else, but I need a translator when trying to wade through all of his Old English. This guide is a Godsend! I finally feel like I’m able to both enjoy and understand the writing of one of the greatest poets and playwrights to ever exist. You don’t really realize how helpful the modern day translation really is, until you pick up this guide. It’s an “Aha!” moment stuffed in between a front and back cover. Love it!

Want an “A” on that next paper? This book will certainly help because Shakespeare is finally clear, just like the title of Garamond Press’ A Midsummer Night’s Dream shakespeare made clear touts. This book makes it easy. Each Act begins with a summary and each Elizabethan line is followed by a word-for-word explanation. Literary devices, meter, historical references, imagery, poetic style—all of these are explained in very simple ways that make Shakespeare’s words vivid and funny and sad and mischievous and romantic all at once. Isn’t that what dreams are made of?

This is an outstanding book, because it not only explains what is meant by Shakespearean language, by translating character lines into modern language, but it also serves as a history lesson in 16th and 17th century England.  While this is a relatively long book, it is clearly written and meticulously researched.  I strongly recommend this book to anyone that wishes to have a greater understanding of this timeless play.

What a dream come true (midsummer or not)! Reading this guide was like having a good and noble fairy dutifully whispering in my ear, happily translating the frenzied and whimsical dialog and obscure references. It made me feel like a welcome guest whilst entering the surrealistic realm of Hermia, Lysander and Puck!

If you love poetry, love stories of human emotion written in William Shakespeare’s language, then you will enjoy this book.  It has A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the original dialect of Shakespeare and then in today’s language.  It is fun to simply read or also most helpful if you are studying the play for school.  It has lots of aids in the appendices to explain the play, the characters, and Shakespeare’s major themes.  It is a great guide to one of the classic plays by William Shakespeare

This edition of A Midsummer Night’s Dream is everything the previous experience of reading a Shakespearian play lacked in this new modern age. It is detailed, it explains what Shakespeare was trying to relay to you, and it gives you the opportunity to be moved by material that at one time was barely tolerable by most. What was once viewed as intimidating and overwhelming has been simplified and transformed into an absolute must read, all the elements are now present for this book to reach people it never could have reached before. This book is beyond any expectations you hoped to find within the pages of such an infamous work of art.

Can a girl fall in love with a guy who is a bit of an ass?  This modern take on one of the Bard’s favorite comedies is sure to delight Shakespeare fans and new readers alike. Back before video games, playing with human lovers was the best entertainment for magical forest folk. The Fairy King Oberon deputizes Puck to play havoc with the humans’ lover lives, and he does a bang-up job of it. Great fun, especially for teens!

If William Shakespeare would have to write again his literature master piece: “A Midsummer night’s dream”.  He would need some help to put it into “modern” language. But somebody else did it for him: The author of this book. It is very recommendable.

Who says Shakespeare has to be boring or can’t be understood?  A Midsummer Night’s Dream will change their minds. The author did
an excellent job by translating this version into a well understood excellent read. Shakespeare had no idea then that our present society
would find his play as funny as it is, with a lot of history built in. Who would have guessed that the clumsiness of the Mechanicals
would be so funny, or the fairies’ mischievous tricks on the lovers would turn out so racy? Page by page this book/play will captivate
your interest driving you to read more.

If you're looking for a way to read Shakespeare easily, this is a great resource that offers a clear, easy to read breakdown of A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream. I personally enjoyed the introduction, detailed background information and convenient structure breakdown.  Shakespeare Made Clear allowed me to uncover humorous areas that didn’t exactly translate in earlier readings. Having the summary written  in clear, modern English at the beginning of each Act - and translations immediately below the original script is not only helpful in reading this particular play, but is almost like training wheels to read literature similarly written.  It’s known that Shakespeare’s work is enjoyable, relevant and can sometimes be intimidating- making the Shakespeare Made Clear Series a valuable tool for students, teachers, and avid-readers alike.
I will be purchasing more from this collection.

I would have laughed if anyone ever told me that Shakespeare could be pleasure reading. But that is exactly what this book made it for me. I'd known since my high school days that Shakespeare was one of the authors that any educated person must have read but I could never get past that the olden language. This book made Midsummer Night's Dream easy and enjoyable for me.
