A MODEST PROPOSAL AND OTHER ESSAYS includes seven essays by famous Irish satirist and writer Jonathan Swift. The most famous of these is A MODEST PROPOSAL, in which Swift mocks British policy toward Ireland and the attitudes of the rich against the poor through a seemingly serious proposal: that poor Irish children be sold as food to the rich. Another well known essay in this collection is AN ARGUMENT AGAINST ABOLISHING CHRISTIANITY, in which Swift defends Christianity against attacks by atheist, freethinker, deists, and other dissenters. Includes an active table of contents for easy navigation.

• A Modest Proposal
• A Letter of Advice to A Young Poet
• A Treatise on Good Manners and Good Breeding
• An Argument Against Abolishing Christianity
• Hints Toward an Essay on Conversation
• On the Death of Esther Johneson
• Thoughts on Various Subjects
