I found this book to be very haunting--it stayed with me for days after I read it. The images were vivid and I felt as if I had been to upstate New York and down to Kentucky once I was finished. I also felt that the story gave me a good feel for what it was like to come of age in the late 1960s, when an "old school"
young woman encounters the flower children for the first time, and how divisive the Viet Nam war was for the men who were subject to the military draft. This was a fast moving story, and I really enjoyed the main character's journey of growth. I would definitely recommend this book for a book club discussion as it presents many potential issues and the characters are extremely well drawn.
