A must-read for any serious soccer fan
I thought English-speaking Italian soccer fans had been lucky enough to have 'Miracle of Castel di Sangro', so when I found Tim Parks' book I thought it was too good to be true. Parks does an excellent job of weaving fascinating anecdotes of Italian culture into this story of a Serie A team struggling to avoid relegation. Whereas 'Miracle of Castel di Sangro' focuses on the actual team, Parks writes more about the fans...sorry, the brigate gialloblu...still, we get to know the players, the owner, the coach, everyone involved. The book just makes you want to be living in the shadows of the Bentegodi, Verona's stadium. Highly recommended.

just like being back in italy
gosh, i loved this book. as i got toward the end, i read only a little every few days so it would last forever. the authenticity, the feeling of being at the field, the anxiety, the overtaking of your whole life - parks captures all this. you wish you were on the bus drinking limoncello and chanting "napoli teroni"Was this review helpful?
