Not as Entertaining or Mysterious as Other Mysteries- A Three Star Read

A Spy on the Home Front written by Alison Hart is an American Girl mystery from the Molly McIntire collection. Molly McIntire is a young girl growing up on the home front with her family in Illinois during World War 2. But in this book, Molly is away summer vacationing with her grandparents in their house. Molly's grandparents' house is near her friend's, Anna's house, who is German. At first, everything seems to be fine. Molly is having tons of fun as usual: going swimming, playing, talking, and doing all of these things with Anna and sometimes, Anna's older brother. Molly thinks life is just perfect, and she enjoys things even more when her favorite aunt Eleanor visits her grandparents' house. Aunt Eleanor is a pilot, but suddenly, is taken away by security for questioning on a recent crime. World War 2 propaganda that is against the USA has been found on one of the planes! Aunt Eleanor is not suspected to having put the propaganda there, but she is questioned about Anna's family. Since Anna's family is German( the USA was fighting against Germany in World War 2) the piloting agents and security seem to think that Anna's brother is the culprit of putting the propaganda in the plane! Worse than that, when Molly visits Anna, Anna is in tears and so is her family. Some mysterious men had visited Anna's family and said they were under suspicion, because they were German. Molly is determined to help her friend Anna and Anna's family before it is too late, even if it means taking dangerous measures. A Spy on the Home Front has a good storyline and like all other American Girl books having anything to do with history, they have an historical section at the back of the book explaining what life was like for people who lived during World War 2. Even though it has a good storyline, author Alison Hart did a poor job of writing into a full story. The book simply doesn't have as much as mystery and excitement as the other American Girl( AG) mysteries. Who the culprit was, was much too obvious instead of unlikely and mysterious. There weren't enough clues or suspects has a real mystery, either. I would recommend the other AG mysteries to girls, but I do give three stars for the book's amazing storyline.
