After reading this biography of one of America's lesser known heroes, I was amazed at the insight Jane Addams possessed during a time period when women were to be seen and not heard. She overcame social obstacles that women today cannot even begin to imagine and accomplished much for the downtrodden not only of her time but for future generations as well. The author made Addams human with all the flaws and strengths we have within, but allowed the unique courage of this humanitarian to shine through. For anyone interested in how one person can make a difference in the lives of many, this book is a must. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Gioia Diliberto has done a wonderful job in 'A Useful Woman' at not only describing the early life of Jane Addams but to let the reader know of her times as well. She brings the words into life with great ease. It is well written and smooth reading. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
