Finally a book that speaks to the issues.

This book presented the reader with recent data covering a multitude of disorders and problems that can occur when the brain isn't functioning correctly. The language used throughout the book is easy to understand and most interesting. A great tool for both the special and regular education professional. The author's use of the four theaters of the brain is insightful.

A must read for anyone intrested in the human mind.

This book is amazing. I am currently in high school and looking to pursue a career in the medical field and looking to understand the human mind better. This book not only explains neuroscience to me but does it in simple vocabulary that anyone could understand.

A fascinating change of perspective on the brain

I found this book to be an utterly fascinating review of recent blurring between neurology and psychology. The author shows us the physiological manifestations of mental illness and the psychological manaifestations of physical conditions of the brain. It is very encouraging about our emerging ability to understand and treat a wide variety of mental illnesses. All of this ... in a readable and entertaining form. If you have any interest in Autism, Asperger's syndrome, OCD, Tourette syndrome etc, or if you're just a brain buff, I think you'll want to read it.

    My favorite!

This is one of the most informative and understandable books on how the brain functions that I've ever read - and I've read a few! The author is entertaining and gives me a lot of hope that, in my old age (70), I can keep learning and growing intellectually. Guess I will need to start exercising more as well!

    Excellent book

Overall an excellent book, he explains current concepts and illustrates with experiments and personal experience. At times he gets very technical, though; I would have trouble understanding some of the terms without a neuroscience background. But in general its very easy, fun to read and understand. A great book for people in the neurosciences and people without background.

If You Have One, This Is a Must Read

Ratey is lucid, unwavering and engaging. His book should be mandatory reading for members of a civilized society; the benefits, of which there are many, would redound to both.
