Teriffic book! WELL worth the money!

I went searching for a historical book on the gunfighters of the old west for a piece I'm writing. It's about an old west outlaw, but at that point, I hadn't yet chosen a specific villain to have as my topic, so I didn't really know what book to get. When I found "Age of the Gunfighter", I was thrilled!

This book covers several of the more interesting characters from the old west, and although I felt it lacked factual, written detail at times, overall, provided me with the perfect starting point for my research. And it provides so much more!

The photos are absolutely STUNNING, and there are a LOT of large full-page, and two-page photos of various old west topics..(Guns, roads and towns, and of course, the gunfighters themselves!)

This is a perfect coffee table book, and a great little historical piece as well. One of my favorite things about it was the accuracy of the facts, and how it squashes some of the myths about gunfighters of the old west, well done! Eye-opening!

My only complaint was that it didn't go into as much factual detail on some of the INCIDENTS that took place as I would have liked, but, like I said, it's a great starting point. It's a solid overall image of the wild west, and a teriffic way to teach your children about that period of american history. Bravo!

****(Disclamer about using this book to teach children- Be warned, some of the photos are graphic, like Bloody Bill's photo with two bullet holes in his head.. Don't say I didn't warn ya!)****

    Anyway, enjoy!

P.S. Applause to the authors, photographers, and creative designers... Beautiful work!! A real piece of art!

AGE of the Gunfighter -- Review

Age of the Gunfighter by Joseph G. Rosa ranks as one of the very books covering this era of the American west. Rosa's writing style, while historically accurate, is enough of a "story telling" style so the information will continue to hold your interest and never bcomes dry. The information in this book covers very completely the characters and events of the gunfighter era as well as good coverage of the towns where the events took place. The pictures in this book, both the selection and quality are the very best I've ever seen. Rosa's "you are there" style of writing really holds your interest. His easy to understand text will appeal to younger readers as well as adults . This is a book anyone interested in the American west will definately want for reference and will reap "converts" to being old west fans. It is a book you will want to read many times both for enjoyment and for reference. Very well balanced information, very interesting and extremely enjoyable. A DEFINATE "must have" for any library.
