    I Also Recommend:

More than anything else this is a story of grit and determination! The war stories are exciting but the obstacles this man had to go through to realize his goal of becoming a combat fighter pilot and what he did to overcome them are amazing!

This book is a real gem and it's definitely movie material. It's also backed by copious references much of which used to be classified. The anti-war crowd won't like the combat scenes, especially the part about strafing tanks and missile launchers while flying fifty feet off the ground. I didn't realize some air combat scenarios are so up close and bloody. Like hand-to-hand combat except in a jet fighter.

Like I said, the war stories are exciting enough on their own but the overall theme is one of grit and determination. This Col Gimmi had to fight the bureaucrats every step of the way his entire career! I think a lot of people, me included, would have given up. Anyone familiar with the military will identify with obstacles this man had to overcome (that's why I got out). He could have retired, but not this guy, he went to Vietnam to fly fighters just like he always wanted to. It's also evident he was more interested in being a warrior than climbing the career ladder. Anyway, I'd like to meet him. Gimmi is obviously one of the last of a dying breed of iron men.

For those who have a heart felt desire to live their dream, whatever that may be, read this book! It's truly inspiring! It shows that if you want something bad enough you can get it. The question is, are you willing to devote your life to it?
