Great Introduction to Alexander!
One of the great introductory reads on Alexander, providing an interesting and incredible narrative on the meteoric life of the great Macedonian king. Freeman avoids the minutiae of military strategy (often a burden with this particular subject matter) and provides insightful information on the rise of Philip, his assassination and Alexander's subsequent consolidation of power. Freeman does not hide his admiration for Alexander, but he is also quick to point out the flaws of this great leader-his love of drink and praise. Though there is nothing ground-breaking in this particular biography, Freeman's narrative literally takes the reader through this amazing period of ancient history. His depiction of Alexander's defeat of Darius, the conquest of the Bactrian wasteland, incursion into the Indus River Valley and hellish return to Babylon are truly riveting. Great stuff!

Alexander the Amazing
Philip Freeman lives up to his ancient name in this great, historically accurate and fun book about one of the greatest men of all time, Alexander the Great of Macedonia. Truely a work of art even Aristotle would enjoy, and learn from, even though he tutored Alexander as a child. Keep on reading Philip Freeman's histories.

Fantastic Read
For those who, like myself knew little about Alexander. This book details his life and many battles. I loved this book and could not put it down after I began reading it.
