Terrific for movie-lovers and fans of the film
This Visual Companion is less a book on the film than it is an insider's look at the making of it. Full of behind-the-scenes imagery, it offers a good glimpse of what went into prepping for filming, including some concept art and daily makeup processes (three hours for the Red Queen, as the wig was effectively sewn to Bonham Carter's head). There is also information for the primary characters, such as the Hatter and the White Queen.
For those interested in the technical aspect of green screen filming (considering this film was nearly all green screen shooting), there are some terrific pictures from the set that permit seeing the reality of the very basic props (all covered in green cloth) which were later transformed into the wild, fantastical Underland shown in theaters.
It makes for a great coffee-table book for film buffs, if for nothing other than some gorgeous two-page spreads. Definitely recommended for Burton and AIW fans.1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.
