This a unique view from a woman's perspective about her time in the sand. It raises several important issues concerning women in combat zones. Civilians and military alike can relate to the double standards placed on women and also the thread of romance, a normal part of life, that occurs in this story in an unusual set of circumstances. Even though I was deployed to the same place in Iraq during that same time, I found sections of the book enlightening while it brought back familiar memories. She dares to talk openly about sex (I assure you, in combat men and women are not too tired to have sex; seems the desire is heightened) but in a relationship that is positive which is not something we hear about in the news much these days. It's a war story, a love story that is happy and sad and most definitely real. I highly recommend this book to any reader.

Many months ago I read the 43 page excerpt for this book. I coudln't put it down, I was so drawn in that once I got to that final page I wanted more. Miyoko has done an excellent job pulling you into her story in a way that you feel as if you are standing right beside her. This book is a must read!!
