I had the priveledge of reading an advanced copy of this excellent new novel. "One Rough Man", the first book in the series, was action-packed and hard to put down. However, "All Necessary Force" has introduced powerful new elements to the Pike Logan series. The result: Brad Taylor has, without a doubt, found his voice as an author.

The first new element to the series is an inward, almost existential look into the country's counterterrorism apparatus. The Task Force, although a fictional organization, confronts the real-world issues of the War on Terror. How do we categorize and combat home grown extremists? What is the potential for another 9/11 type attack and will we see it coming? Is the military a viable tool if Federal and local law enforcement are unable and/or unprepared to stop a pending attack? Brad Taylor is not afraid to ask the tough questions. Through his characters, the author explores all sides of these issues. This new subplot adds depth to the action and violence of the novel.

Just as Brad Taylor came into his own in writing this novel, the character, Jennifer, finds herself during the course of "All Necessary Force". Now an unnofficial part of the Task Force, Jennifer struggles and overcomes again and again to confront life as an operator. Brad Taylor, having been one himself for many years, conveys this violent coming of age with brutal realism.

Finally, the character of Pike Logan draws in the reader more than ever before. Pike has evolved from the unrestricted avenger of "One Rough Man". In "All Necessary Force", Pike has become an even greater asset to the Task Force. He is now smooth and controlled, once again the mature operator from the beginning of the series, before the death of his loved ones. However, when needed or provoked, Pike becomes rage and violence on a whole new level, eagerly killing any enemy in his path.

For those who enjoyed the action and can't-put-it-down quality of the first novel, "All Necessary Force" does not dissapoint. This novel contains all of the raids, espionage, and political intrigue of "One Rough Man". However, Brad Taylor has raised the Pike Logan series to another level in the quality of storytelling and character development. Pre-order the book today and you will be in for one great read on January 17, 2012.

He only needs to channel Sandra Brown to bring the romance to a head.

    A thoroughly great read!

I have just finished All Necessary Force and as with the first book in the series (One Rough Man) I couldn't help but read it in one gulp. The plot carries you away at such a quick clip it's truly hard to put down. A few reviewers mentioned a slow beginning, but I didn't find that to be true. I knew all of those disparate storylines were heading for a collision at some point so I just enjoyed the ride. It's fascinating how much of a sense of place the author is able to convey about each location as you hop around Indonesia, Egypt, Prague, even the Washington DC area. All of this is managed without slowing down the story with too much exposition. One of the reasons I enjoyed the book so much is that I find all of the characters in Brad Taylor's stories to be so much more developed and well rounded than other plot-driven books that I read. It's not just the main characters, but also the secondary and tertiary characters are fleshed out. Even when the least discussed Task Force member is wounded you will feel a sense of loss. They all read as real people and (refreshingly) even the bad guys are multidimensional. The tension that has been ratcheting up between Pike and Jennifer since they met in the first book is deliciously frustrating. I found myself thumbing ahead hoping to get a glimpse of what would occur between them in the pages ahead only to be left wanting more. They are a great pair that will hopefully be around for us to enjoy for a long time. Another job well done! I can't wait for the third book.

    Top Notch!

Brad Taylor does a great job following up on Pike's heroics from One Rough Man. This novel keeps you in suspense without wanting to put it down. His military experience enables him to create realistic situations and tactics that the Taskforce faces in this global crisis.

    Highly recommended--exciting read!

This new author forges his place in the same category as Brad Thor, Vince Flynn, and David Baldacci. In his first novel, One Rough Man, Brad Taylor proves himself a worthy equal of the masters in this genre. Although a little slow in the beginning, it lays the groundwork for a highly suspenseful page-turner, and it doesn't fail to fulfill expectations. In this second novel, All Necessary Force, Taylor refines and sharpens his writing skills and brings to life the characters and plot that we come to expect in these type of books. He gives readers a frighteningly realistic view of terrorism, while garnering respect for an elite group of patriots who risk everything to keep our country safe. Well written, exciting, and terrifyingly believable!

    Excllent follow up!

ONE ROUGH MAN, was a great book. Brad Taylor has knocked the follow up out of the park. ANF was outstanding! As the charecters continue to grow you can feel yourself get caught up in their emotions. You are rooting for them to suceede in both their mission and their lives. Everyone has a charecter they can get attached to. You will go threw arange of emotions while following the charecters to the end. This book is a must have.

    Couldn't put this one down!

With both books (One Rough Man and All Necessary Force) Brad Taylor grabs your attention within the first few pages and you continue to want to find out what the next obstacle is and how will Pike and Jennifer deal with it along with their own demons from the past and present. I could not put this book down. I thoroughly enjoyed Jennifer coming into her own and demonstrating her capabilities and asset to the team dynamic. This was a fast read that took me away to an exciting adventure. Great job!

If you enjoy reading Spy/Thriller Books you will enjoy this book. Reminds me of books by Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, Robert Crais, or David Baldicci. The character of Jennifer provides a unique contrast to the other charaters in the book. Can't wait for the next one.
