I thought this book was going to be total fluff which would have been okay, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was well written and the characters were well developed. The story was a glimpse into the lives of three females, a mother and two daughters, who keep secrets from each other which in turn results in a stronger bond when the secrets are revealed. Ultimately, wealth is not measured solely in terms of dollars and cents but also in one's character, which these women discover together.Show Less

    Enthralling

Couldn't put this one dowm. Felt like I could relate to every main character even though I've never been through any of these situations.
Wish there other books from this author.

    Good summer read!

I couldn't put this book down! It had me completely invested in the characters' lives. I was sad when it ended, but I would definitely recommend. A very good read for a day at the beach!

    Starts with a bang...

This novel begins by bringing you into the details of one day in the life of a mother and her adult daughter. Most women will be able to empathize with their moment to moment thoughts and frustrations. The plot becomes interesting, adds a second daughter and about half way through fizzles with predictability. To the reader's dismay, the ending is too painfully drawn out and tied up in ribbon.

    Too Wordy

The subject and people involved in the story were good, but it was far too wordy, and took too long to get anywhere. I found myself skimming just to get thru it. It also leaves one hanging in the end, as we do not know the outcome of the divorce settlement. I can not imagine anyone saying that Brown would be a new favorite author.

    HORRIBLE!!

UGH!! If I could have rated this book with negative stars I would have! I can't stand it when authors make their main charater a weak, hopeless female. But in this case there were three of them. All perpetuating a vicious cycle of hopelessness and dispair. First with their mom, who trapped their father into a loveless marriage and then blames him for leaving. Then the older daugther who at 30 can't seem to get herself together. The younger daughter who thinks love and adoration can be bought with sex and then proceeds to have sex with every boys she can. Terrible writing and a waste of time and money to boot! UGH!!

All We Ever Wanted Was Everything

I started reading the book this morning and ended up finishing it 10 hours later. It's a fast-paced read and I fully enjoyed every page of it. It reminds me of how quickly our lives can unravel and spin out of control if we're not careful.

    Great summer read

Finally a book that feeds my "can't put it down" summer read desires! This book is well written and shares the perfect amount of detail to encapsulate the reader in the lives of the characters without becoming too wordy and tiresome as so many other books do.

Not quite as "relatable" as I was anticipating it to be

I picked up this book becasue I was looking for an easy summer read and one of reviews said that it was "one of the most difficult-to-put-down books of the year." After scanning the first chapter a bit, I thought that this book would possibly connect at some level with the day to day wants, struggles, and roles of women.
Overall, it was an "average" read for me. I did not find the plot addictive to where it would be impossible to put down. In the end, I was left with a need for a more developed resolution; which, could be due to the fact that the plot did not move quickly enough for me.

    Worthwhile Read

I like how the author bounces around and shows different chapters of events in different characters' points of view. I know it is a girls' book, but I wish that she would have shown us how the husband & the boy Mark felt. Some days I could not put this book down. She seems to cram all the drama in at the last few chapters.

Character development is terriffic. Plot just keeps getting more exciting and unpredictable. Can't wait for her next book.

Told by each of the three main characters, the mom, Janice; and two daughters, Lizzie a 14 yr old and Margaret, a 24 yr old grad school graduate and failed enterpreneur . A divorce starts the drama. How Janice deals with the stress and trauma of divorce just is escalated by the demands of motherhood and emotional stress/depression. Janelle does not miss a beat. Dialogue so very realistic for this time period that I can totally believe everything. Great work.

    Appropriate Title for Book

Before I read the book, I was somewhat skeptical about the content/plot. The book seemed to be a mere daytime drama-turned-novel. I expected the book to be superficial and lacking in surprises. The book, however, was very different from what I had initially expected. For starters, the characters had a great deal of depth to them. Their problems not only seemed real, but vivid. The plot twists were also timed appropriately; the author rarely dwelling for too long on any specific topic. The structure of the novel (a rotating of characters per chapter) was at times a bit redundant. The obvious flaws of the book are: 1) it was written be an overt feminist, 2) oftentimes, it is excessively melodramatic, and 3) the topic would only interest a select population. However, despite all of its flaws, I still do mildly recommend the book. The book is a relatively quick read, the characters are refreshing, and the author did a nice job of writing the book.
