As the daughter of one of the veterans profiled in the book, I was intrigued by the details of my Dad's retelling of his time in Korea--details which I had never heard. I was moved by his story but also by those of the other veterans from each of the wars. You will be touched by the personal stories that the veterans shared and reminded of the sacrifices that they made for our country. The book puts a very personal stamp on our nation's history. My Dad turns 82 this summer, and I'm so happy that he was able to tell his story.

This comprehensive collection of first-person accounts movingly illustrates the horror, heroism, and heartbreak inherent in war. It is essential reading for veterans and those who want to support our vets and understand what they have endured.

American Veterans on War is an amazing book: in the words of vet

American Veterans on War is an amazing book: in the words of veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan, you enter their world of war and learn so much from these never before published accounts recorded by oral historian Elise Tripp. What candid and thoughtful first hand accounts these are! Readers will find out not only about veterans' from age 20 to 90 personal experiences on the battlefield, but also their views on American wars from the most just and necessary of wars, to those that cannot be won.
