a challenging but worthwhile read
This collection has several really intense stories - especailly Big Me. And while others aren't to that level they're still a good read. Definintally a book worth picking up but none of the tales are simple ones - a must for a thoughful reader.

Starts Off Good and then ..........
I picked this book up because I am a fan of short stories, and I saw that the author, Dan Chaon, had been a national book award finalist. I like short stories, but I like them to have a decent ending. None of the stories in this book did. They all had a good basis for the components of a short story, but then they all kind of fizzeled out in the end, leaving the reader (me) feeling like-What Just Happened Here? It left me feeling completely empty, like all the good parts that I read in the beginning were apart of some other story that got lost and was pieced together with whatever garbage ending he decided to close it with. In a nutshell, I thought it sucked.
