    Slow in the Middle

This Regency plot featuring a heroine who is eight years older than the hero had lots of promise, but it got rather bogged down in the middle and never met its full potential to dazzle me. The heroine was the epitome of a prudish spinster and I was hoping she'd be witty and a bit bold, as many of Elizabeth Mansfield's heroines have been. The hero was okay, if a bit slow to realize that the age gap was why he was repeatedly rejected. However, I did like the opening of this novel and the ending was what one would expect from this author. If I really like a book, I stick with it before starting another book. I started another book once I reached chapter six of An Encounter with Venus and then started a novella a day or two later. I finished the book I started at chapter six of this one and almost all of the novella before forcing myself to get back to An Encounter with Venus and finish it before I lost track of what was happening in the storyline. I then rewarded myself by finishing the last couple of chapters of the novella on the same night.
