This book was such an inspiration. The animals in these pages are truly someone, not something, and I hope the book encourages many to leave animals off their plates, and let them into their hearts. I'm more inspired than ever to visit a farmed animal sanctuary!

I have always wanted to visit a sanctuary for farmed animals, because I've read about how they each have unique personalities and skills, are intelligent well beyond what people give them credit for, and, even after suffering so much abuse, are capable of showing immense love to humans. Animal Camp makes me want to go even more, but until I can make it, the heartwarming, inspiring, and sometimes tear-jerking stories in this book make a nice substitute.

I have always loved animals but haven't taken the vegan plunge.

I have always loved animals but haven't taken the vegan plunge. After reading "Animal Camp", I ordered several vegan cookbooks. I can no longer look at animals and separate their personalities and the fact that they feel fear and love from the meat on my plate. Kathy has shown the depth that animals have, along with her own unbelievable dedication to saving lives. Even if you're not a vegetarian, you will love the stories Kathy tells. My 14 year-old daughter enjoyed the book as well and it looks like we'll be going vegan together!

Oh how I loved this book! Stevens is all heart and soul. She paints a vivid picture of what life is like for animals on factory farms, in processing plants, in grow lots and other agribusiness, but that for a few, there is joy after misery and life beyond pain. She proves - without any doubt whatsoever - that individuals CAN make a difference, a REAL difference. We all just need to take those small steps, and believe that doing something, anything is far better than doing nothing. Inspirational and moving and thought-provoking.
