Wow!

This was my first Jennifer Cruise book. I was soooooooo engrossed in her story I could not put the book down. Loved all the characters except for the nasty ex-husband. Buy this and you will not be disappointed. I will be buying more JC's books.

This is my second Crusie novel and I was not impressed. After I read Bet Me, which turned out to be my favorite book of all time, I knew I'd be difficult to please. Anyone But You is cute and it's a quick read, but only because it was so short, not because it was a page-turner. Maybe it's because I didn't personally relate to it. I found the underlying story of Charity's novel much more intriguing than Alex & Nina's romance. As I mentioned, this was only my second Crusie novel, but there seems to be a slight theme: the men are madly in love with their women. I love that about her books. I don't think reading about a man's strong devotion ever gets old, for me anyway. It's romantic and adorable. I wouldn't say pass on this book, but perhaps stick it at the bottom of your list.Show Less

    Fun, quick read

This was a really fun, quick read - perfect for the summer. The characters were very likable and realistic. I enjoyed the set-up - younger man (with issues) falling for an older woman (with issues). The story unfolded naturally and it was nice rooting for the main characters. Take this to the beach or the pool!

    Super cute story!

Loved this one from the beginning, just could not put it down! The few antics by Fred the dog make it even funnier. Very short and well worth the read!

Not my favorite book by Crusie

I usually love Jennifer Crusie books but found this one to be lacking her usual humor and fun story telling. It was ok but I really wouldn't recommend it unless you truly can't find anything else to read.

    Enjoyable and fun read

Started reading this about 10:00 pm and finished at 3:00 AM; needless to say, I enjoyed this book. Crusie is an easy read and her characters are real in their thinking. Sometimes her endings are altruistic, but if you aren't looking for a depressing book this is your author. This book is a sure thing for laugh out loud enjoyment.

    Short easy read

I've read other Crusie books, and this one was not one of her best. It's on par with Manhunting, a little more on the serious side, not as humorous as some of her other ones. It was short, so she didn't develop the supporting characters as much; the storyline was meaningful but it could have been more well written. Welcome to Tempation is my favorite so far, and I have yet to read Bet Me and Agnes & the Hit Man. I hope to see more sassy and witty books from her. Overall, it's a quick fun read.

    Super cute, funny, light read!

I really enjoyed this book. It's short (123 pages total on my nook) but it was perfect! The characters were well developed and the story line was credible. The author mercifully spared us from the typical "uncharacteristic" moments that cause unnecessary drama...each character was true to themselves until the end, something I very much appreciated. This was the first Jennifer Cruise book I read, but it won't be the last.

more animals with bigger roles in your books!!!!!

Personality of everything. Favorite of mine because of personality of Fred. He had me smile. As an animal lover any book that features animals with quirky personalities that have large roles in books in a must. Animals of the cover and then not a major role in book is misleading, I do think people and animals can communicate emotions, attitudes etc.

    Good Read

I just finished this book, very cute. It's about a divorcee named Nina starting over - with a new life and a new pet. The adorable Fred, part Bassett, part Beagle, part ever changing is full of personality and really adds a smile (literally) to the story. And he also brings some new people into Nina's life, like Alex, the handsome young ER doc and kind neighbor. We get more of Fred's antics as well as follow Nina and Alex through the awkward almost courtship and a hopeful future. Add in the off the wall best friend of Nina and Alex's brother and you get a lot of fun. Humor, drama, friendship, it's not the most romantic story ever told, but still a very sweet love story.

Hooked me from the first scene

I love Fred. I have 3 dogs, none of whom are a fred. One is a Dinah and she is totally not-Fred. This is a fast-paced, well-written, gorgeous to the imagination and so helpful to the middle-aged woman trying to believe in romance or love. This book carries you along with each word. It is so re-readable that it is scary. You can buy this book and enjoy it as much on the 50th read as you do on the first. This book hooked me on the author, but not all of her stories are as good as this one. She's still a good author to remember when desperate for a new story to read; just that she is a bit uneven. Her single author books are better than when she teams up. But, do I recommend this book about Fred? OH YEAH! Fred ain't a German Wirehaired Pointer (my breed of choice) but he does a great impression of Lassie as a Basset hound. If you love dogs being dogs, and if you love finding love and yourself, you'll love this book. All the characters are believable and fun.
I'm looking for more copies to buy as gifts for my friends who show dogs or just love them as pets.

    Everyone Needs a Fred

This droopy eyed, depressed, oreo-motivated dog is one of the best characters! Crusie's humor and great story-telling really shines in this book. Fred (part-basset, part-beagle) is a funny little part of this book, but it just wouldn't be the same without him! The story is fun and keeps you going. The characters are great and you really root for them. A great, fun read.

    Loved the first half!

I had high expectations for this book. I've read several Crusie books and enjoyed them. However, this one fell flat. The first half was fun, cute, fluff. The second half, just horrible. The doctor is what........30? He thinks she wants to live life like she did when she was married before? He was just SO clueless. The dad, the alcoholic dad. No redeeming qualities. Max, the brother that loved to drink beer. The stupid boss that fired Nina. The characters just weren't that interesting. The dog, was kind of cute but I thought ol Fred would play a bigger part or be funnier.
