I haven't finished all of the stories but from what I've read so far, the rest will be great. My favorite one was 'The Screwfly Solution.' It scared the hell out of me. I couln't sleep after I read that. A must read for anyone who likes this genre. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

A Very Disturbing Collection
It is a rare treat to find a collection of stories so unsettling. This book had me brooding for days. For example: imagine being among the survivors of a nuclear holocaust, the planet gradually sinking into a new dark age of nuclear winter; or a rogue 'dark star' passing through our solar system that rips the earth from its orbit and casts it into the coldness of the interstellar wastes; or a rising tide from global warming that reduces the Rocky Mountains to an archipelago; or a botched attempt at increasing agricultural yields via gene splicing that unleashes catastrophe. The best part about these stories is that, in most of them, the central characters are rounded out enough that you empathize with them and find that unnerving feeling of 'Uh-Oh' welling up from within. All of the stories are short enough to be read in a quick burst just before bedtime. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
