    more from this reviewer

    A Wack-A-Doodle Lark

This could be my favorite book of all time! Made a total fool of myself laughing out loud on a plane while reading it. I'd put it down to regain my dignity, start again and another burst of laughter would erupt from me. The stares from fellow passengers! How many books can elicit that continuous response from a reader? Maybe it was the high cruising altitude, but I loved this winsome tale of civility and a forgotten world of manners and good will to others. Enjoy!

If you like mountaineering stories, this one is for you. The Ascent of Rum Doodle is one of the funniest stories I have ever read in my life. Seriously - just read it. I'm afraid I'll tell you the whole story if I keep talking, so just read it!

    highly amusing read

The Ascent of Rum Doodle is the humorous account of a mountain climbing expedition in which the characters and sequence of events are completely outrageous. The members of the expedition are utterly incompetent, leaving me laughing out loud at every turn of the page. It may be beneficial to have first read a factual account of a mountain climbing expedition (I would highly recommend Into Thin Air, by Jon Krakauer) in order to fully appreciate the absurdity of Rum Doodle. I also enjoyed the thorough and enlightening introduction by Bill Bryce.
