Certainly Mr. Reed was near the center of many events of the Cold War, and his interpretations are interesting, but he's clearly writing a tribute to himself. I found some of his stories to be interesting especially the US intelligence failures on Soviet nuclear weapons capabilities in the 1950's (they won't have the capability for 3 years only to see a thermonuclear device tested within the month). I was disturbed, though, by his characterization of Sec. of Defense Cheney basically dictating the US Gulf War involvement to the Saudis. Mr. Reed wasn't in the meeting and his story contradicts those of people that were there. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
