Oh The Magic of the Season...

I have to say that this book brings back the magic of the season. It was very well written and definately a page turner. I was suppose to read it in 24 nights but cheated and did it in 5. I will read this every year just before the season gets going. 5 stars plus.

Really good for book club

I read this book for my book club's December meeting. I found the book to be well written. It was hard to get into but I enjoyed the historical fiction aspect of the book. I just wish that so much wasn't squished into the last 4-5 chapters...

    Not up to the Promo

The concept is good, but the actual writing did not live up to the preface and book description. This experience will make me really think twice about purchasing any books for my Nook based on the promo pieces. I am finding that the "free" sample is predominately cover pages, copyright pages, etc. I was expecting a sample chapter to read which provides much more insight into the author's writing style. I won't be happy going to the store to really read a chapter prior to buying and reading books on the Nook.

    Consider Skipping This One

When I started reading this book, I enjoyed it. But then I was embarrassed that I had actually recommended it to a few friends before finishing it, and now they were going to be running into the same, slow, detailed, absurd, distorted history lessons, that I was wading through. I wouldn't have minded so much if the historical context was factual, but the fantastical. . . but dull. . . nature of it was neither informative or particularly entertaining.

Overall, I'd have to say, skip the book and drink some eggnog instead. I was left wondering whether this book was intended for kids (NO! You'd screw up any sense of history they might ever have any hope of developing!) or adults (adults who have really, really a lot of time on their hands and need something to help them fall asleep at night, around Christmas time, if they don't happen to be exhausting themselves already to oblivion all on their own.)
