    A demanding occupation!

McDaniel doesn't sugar coat things. He carries the reader into the action and describes what is happening and what demands the crews are facing during each instance as the battle rages. Events happen quickly! Attention to duty is paramount. Must read!

    Brilliant!

This book has it all. The characters are rich, the dialogue is first-rate, and the technical details are superb. This is easily the best submarine warfare novel I've seen in years. Expect J. T. McDaniel's name to become a household word.

    I enjoyed it a lot

I got to look over an advance copy of this novel, looking for technical goofs. I only found one. The technical stuff wasn't all McDaniel got right. I'm fairly sure I knew some of these characters in my own Navy days. Since I was looking for errors, I wound up reading the book three times. I kept getting caught up in the story and forgetting what I was supposed to be doing. The characters are as authentic as the setting, and the action scenes are both exciting and accurate. As World War II sub novels go, this is one of the best.
