    What a beautiful picture book!!

School is simple for those old and new
you just need to know the things not to do.
    Follow Percy's return to school
learn from him, don't be such a fool!

Review: We loved looking through the pictures. The kids - 3 through 10 - laughed uproariously.
Ok, ok. I admit. I love the rhyming books most of all!!

Percy's humorous back-to-school rules, will give any young student a case of the giggles and a few "ideas."

Percy Isaac Gifford is ready to head back to school and he has not one, two three four, five, but ten special rules for everyone to pay attention to. Percy waved his stop sign in the crosswalk at the traffic as children crossed the street on their way to school. Crossing guards have important jobs, but it was even more important for him to tell every one the rules they must pay attention to when schools starts. "I get the most out of my school year. / I promise, you can too. / The rules of success are simple: / Just know what NOT to do." The first, and one of the most important rules, is to show up on time. No sticking your nose up to the window in the classroom door hoping no one will notice you sneak in!

If you make excuses, they don't wash with Percy (nor with teachers) and it's a plus to be polite. There are all kinds of little things you need to pay attention to in class. NO foolishness allowed and if you think you're going to think about putting that tack on the teacher's chair . . . don't. Percy Isaac Gifford is a seasoned pro and does know what you can and cannot do at school. There are many important rules, but Rule 8 is more of the most important of all: "No teasing, taunting, fighting. / No punches, pokes, or kicks. / you should not laugh at others. / Never, ever play mean tricks." That means spitballs are out of the question. If you want to learn about things not to do you might want to listen to Percy Isaac Gifford, a boy in the know!

Percy's humorous back-to-school rules, will give any young student a case of the giggles and a few "ideas." Percy has ten basic rules, but as I read through the book each rule has several subsections, especially his rule about what "NEVER to do in school." This rule shows Percy at a blackboard in a two-page spread using a pointer to tell us all about those horrid things that many of us have done or will do in school. This list is the one that most youngsters will find the most humorous, especially when he talks about things like refraining from slithering on the floor. This is a lighthearted, comical tale with whimsical artwork that certainly adds to Percy's rule book. Percy is a fellow who obviously has learned from experience and any school newbie will enjoy learning what NOT to do in this easy "rule" book!
