Not my favorite
I am struggling to finish this book. It's hard to enjoy a story if you don't really like the main character, and Rose Mae Lolley/Ro Grandee just isn't all that likeable to me. Yes, I feel sorry for her being married to an abusive husband and having grown up with an abusive father and an absentee mother who she believes to have abandoned her. But feeling badly for someone is not the same as liking someone. Rose was the type of girl who didn't have much use for female friends, seeing them only as her adversaries in getting the guy. She spends half the book looking for an old boyfriend who she thinks is hooked up with another girl she knew in high school and plotting on how to win him away from her so she can get him to kill her husband. Then she abandons that plan, and heads off in search of her long lost mother. The book didn't really seem to have a good plot to me. I didn't understand how she suddenly realized the airport gypsy was her mother, and I don't think the "clues" her mother left would have realistically have been found or deciphered in real life. Not my favorite book.
