A review by Author Duane Schwartz

If it is true that a writer is someone who has been given a gift, then it is also true that this writer's benefactor was a generous one. Her characters are alive. I see them. I feel for them. And although my senses fall short of smelling perfume or cologne, or sweat, that is not to say I do not perspire with them in tense scenes. And you will too. It cannot be helped. Ms. Berkom's craft has been honed to that level.

Within the pages of Bad Spirits 1-5, Berkom's principal character, Kate, is a feisty, adventurous, albeit naïve-following the heart more than the head-full speed ahead, high energy, fast thinking and acting character once she comes to her senses. She is out maneuvered at every turn, it seems, by a superior advisary, a relentless Mexican drug lord named Salazar, yet she holds true to her commitment to defeat him. Courage. That is what separates Berkom's characters from those created by others. A realistic kind of courage. I give this work four out of five stars, the fifth missing only out of a selfish desire on the part of this reviewer for more from this talented author.

As the author of five novels, Cobb's Landing, Calumet, Little Cicero, Fetchenko, and the soon to be released The Winds of Change, I appreciate good writing and there's only one conclusion I can come to about Ms. Berkom: she is a credit to the profession. Read her work. You won't be disappointed. I promise.

It was okay. Not the total and complete best, but had a little spunk to it. It was one of those books that sucked, but you still wanted to find put what would happen in the end

    Sets The Stage................

This starts the series on Kate Jones. The follow up three books are very interesting and keeps me at least, coming back for more. Looking forward to the next one to see where and what Kate does next. Hurry up DV.

    Fast-paced action!

This book hits the ground running and doesn't let you go until the end.

Kate Jones is a woman trying to get out of Mexico alive with a backpack full of money. She's running from her ex-boyfriend, Salazar, the ruthless leader of a drug cartel, who's vowed to track her down, retrieve his money and make her pay for leaving him.

As soon as she gets out of one predicament, she's thrown into another. I couldn't put it down, wondering what the heck was going to happen to her next. If you like action and adventure with a strong woman character, you'll like Bad Spirits!

    lady on the run

Done in great serial form, I've read each episode and can't wait to read more. Kate is on the run from her ex-boyfriend who just happens to be the leader of a Mexican drug cartel. She's not just escaping him, she's also escaping with a large quantity of his money. The ex not only wants his cash back in the worst way, he wants her dead. Bad Spirits is an exciting page turner from book one, page one, to the last page of book five.
