Joel was ripped off!
After reading both Jarhead and Bahgdad Express, this book seemed a lot more sincere than Jarhead. And after seeing the horrible movie Jarhead last night, I thought I was watching Bahgdad Express. Swofford completely ripped off Joel. Express would have made a better movie and I am sorry Swofford beat him to the punch. I also read Nine-O Adam by Adam Matkowsky, who covers not only his life before and during his Marine Gulf experience, but afterwards also. I wish the author lots of luck. Myself a former Marine in the Gulf, felt Express was a worthwhile read and the best account of a non-commissioned Marine in the Gulf. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. I was deceived into buying this book by a quote on the cover comparing it to 'Catch-22'. The comparison was a stretch. I have read Plato, Augustine, Aquinas, Pascal, Emerson, and many of the other philosphers mentioned in the book, as well as Joseph Heller. This guy rates that kind of company only in his dreams. Page after page repetition of the 'f' word may be reality, but it isn't literature, much less Catch-22. I want my money back. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
