BUYER BEWARE: Many typos in this book!

The editors need to do some careful proofreading. There is absolutely no excuse to put out a book with typos, especially since they have had almost 100 years to edit them since Doyle first wrote these! I think next time I will opt for the Nook version of the Complete Sherlock Holmes which are much much cheaper.

Not As Many Typos As You Think!!

A wonderful book. The pages seem gold on the outside. It comes with a gold ribbon bookmark. Many people are complaining that there are many typos. Please note that the book was written in England and that English people spell things different than American people. For example, they spell realize as realise, with an S.

    Beautiful Book

I have many books from this Barnes and Noble collection. I am quite fond of it, and love the way the entire series looks together on my livingroom shelf. The story is great. I had not read any Sherlock Holmes previous to this, and it is quite enjoyable. The book is nicely made. The pages are gold edged, the cover is nicely embossed, and the plaid liner is very traditionally Holmes-like. The price was reasonable considering the quality of the books structure, all the way down to the ribbon bookmark. The only thing holding me back from giving this book a full five stars is that it is wrought with typos. Some are minor letter transposition, such as the being teh, but some are much more serious. There were a couple of sentences that I had to scan a few times. It could be a little distracting at moments. It does not seem to have been proofed before entering publication.

    Great looking book, sloppy presentation

I was excited to get this book and finally read the stories of Sherlock Holmes. This is an incredibly nice leather bound and stylish book for the price you pay, however numerous spelling and grammatical mistakes detract from the overall quality of the book. I have read half of the stories and have counted well over three dozen mistakes that are not present in the original text. These stories are well over a hundred yeas old so these mistakes are hardly forgivable. Frequently a sentence will simply contain the incorrect word. Words that sound similar or start with the same letter will replace the correct word, such as "be" in place of "by". One instance in the book even has a semicolon placed in the center of a word. This is a great looking book but the numerous errors riddled throughout the text seriously detract from the quality of this edition and the reading experience. It really is a shame how sloppy this is.

    Greatest Book Ever

My dad and I found this book at a Barnes & Noble while on vacation. Finding Sherlock Holmes stories interesting and with the great price of the leatherbound edition, I readily bought it. I feel that it was a great decision and the book is magnificent. However, I do have one problem - typos. I'm not that far into the book, and I have already counted at least ten typos. The average reader probably wouldn't care as long as he understands what it is trying to say. As for me, being an avid reader, it's pretty terrible to see this in a book I like.

    Astounding

There isn't much to say since the title describes it all in one word. The book looks gorgeous, feels very firm in the hand, and each story is so perfectly planned and so well detailed that unless you don't like books over an elementary reading level than I can see no reason why you wouldn't like this book.

    Amazing Classic

This complete collection of the Sherlock Holmes series is an amazing deal. The reader gets a thrilling ride in the alcoves of the late 1800s British crime. An intellectually appealing book that gives an interesting outlook on criminal analysis.

The book cover is great although the book is pretty heavy. The book also has almost no typos in the first few books, but there are more as the reader gets toward the end of the book.

THE COMPLETE SHERLOCK HOLMES - Leatherbound Hardcover

For years I have heard of Sherlock Homes but I have never read any of the stories. I purchased this collection with little expectations, I wanted to stories to "speak to me" with a clear mind. I must say that I am not disappointed at all. The writing is clear and concise, the characters and plots are easy to like and follow while not being too simplistic, and overall the stories provide an entertaining thrill to the reader. The book itself is leatherbound and hardcover and contains a nice biographical introduction that is a pleasure to read. Most Introductions can bore the reader within the first couple of paragraphs but not this one. It is written by a devoted fan of the author's works and therefore gives many interesting and entertaining facts.

If you are into Classic Literature then this collection is one to add to your personal library or give as a gift. My only complaint is that the pages are very thin but I think that is to be expected with collected works like these all in one volume. I did not find this to be a deterent from reading the stories though. These leatherbound classics also come with a fabric bookmarker in the book itself which makes it more than convenient. I highly recommend this collection of stories as well as this series for anyone who is into building their personal library. It is a book that can be passed down through the generations of readers in your family.

    Great Bargain

This Complete Sherlock Holmes edition by Sir A. Conan Doyle is exactly what the good doctor (Watson, I believe) ordered. It is very difficult in searching the web to find the Holmesian Canon in one volume that is presented as well as this edition. All the beloved stories are here in easy to read and find formats with very nice illustrations to begin each title. It is very nice to have a sewn-in ribbon book mark with composite leather cover! I believe I would have a preferred a little larger size, like a coffee table size; however, for the great price, whose to complain? This is truly a bargain - I actually saw the same book on another website being sold by an individual asking $140. for it! Thank you Barnes and Noble for making this publication available at such a bargain price. I would have paid 3 times the price I paid, but not $140!! Keep up the good work with great bang for the buck.

I am currently a high school student that aims to become a Detective one day. That is my dream! Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is a true genius in every sense and so is his invention, Super Sleuth Sherlock Holmes. This book holds the human logic deep within it's pages and gives it's readers an insight of the extraordinary and magnificent brain of Mr. Holmes. All four novels and fifty-six tales are captured and topped off with a fine hardcover. This is a must buy!

    Best read

I LOVE this book. I have read it more than once..more than 10 times over the last 20 years. If you enjoy light reading and love detective stories - this is perfect. Read it on lunch hour - you can finish a story while lunching. It is so much fun!

I am pretty happy with this book overall. The artwork on the cover is really cool and it almost makes up for all of the typos. I know that the British spell things differently than us on occasion (Theatre vs. Theater) however, the typos go FAR beyond cultural differences and end up in the land of "Oops! We really should've caught that one!" I dare say that I have found more typos in the 1067 pages of this book than I have encountered in the aggragate of all the books I have ever read...and I read quite a bit. To be fair, I would recommend this book to a friend. I would give it as a gift. I would even buy another copy if something were to happen to the one I have now. I will be buying more BnN Leatherbounds. However, to be honest I feel BnN spent more time on the cover artwork than they did proofreading the book itself. I hope that the other BnN Leatherbound Series don't have this many typos; I would love to have them all. Typos or not, they look great on my shelf!

It's a great book! A gorgeous book. I just bought it, haven't read it yet, but i'm reviewing the book itself and not the stories.
The materials are great, the paper not really thick, and the gold colors are a really nice touch!

    I Also Recommend:

I recommend Sherlock Holmes, just not in this volume.

This complete collection of Sherlock Holmes stories provide Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous character in one volume. However, this volume of Holmes's stories are rather bulky and makes it hard for the reader to enjoy it while lying down.
