    One of My Favorite Books
I just started reading sci-fi this year, at almost 50 years of age, and I think Asimov was a ground-breaking author. Iain Banks got my interest, but then I notice that Asimov developed the foundation for much of my interest. He was a doubly rare personality who understood physics/astronomy, and was emotionally/psychologically/politically/historically sensitive as well. As an example, read the short story 'The Final Question', written ca. 1950. He already had imagined a computer whose mass was stored in hyperspace to reduce its bulk. I thought that idea was clever when I read Banks' ca. 1990 culture series. As was already mentioned, these novels were written at the peak of his craft, when he had the psychological perspective (age) to make these novels more than scientific imagination.

    Great present

i bought this for my husband; one of his favourites. My 3 teenage sons, who are not into books, were captured by the look and feel of the book itself and are now reading this and another B&N leather bound classic - very impressed.

Excellent trilogy, classic Asimov. This book has earned a special place in the Science Fiction genre, and it is well deserved. The pages fly by and just when you think that you know where this is going, a new revelation completely changes direction. Asimov was at the peak of his writing abilities when he penned this. Great series, and this trilogy was the start of it all.
