a fair adventure
This book is as good as the movie. I think it was wise that Mr. Garland didn't have Richard sleep around with any of the girls in the book. A good adventure book, and I like the psychological aproach to it. This is the kind of book just about anyone would like (especially for men under 25 or 30).Was this review helpful? Pretty Good for a First Novel
I received this book as a Christmas present. Overall, very good. I find it kind of interesting that a couple of people have mentioned women's roles or whether the book is perceived as a 'boys' book' or not. For better or worse, Sal is definitely one of the strongest characters, if not the strongest. Although I agree w/others who have said her character & others could be a bit more developed. The motivations, etc. aren't quite clear & there were a few moments which challenged the old willing suspension of disbelief. However, considering it's a first novel & all, I'd say those are rather minor & incidental flaws. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
