Authentic case study clothed in novel form
As a avid reader of military history, and a professional infantryman in the United States Marine Corps, I must say this is one of the finest books on the subject I have ever read. Written prior to Vietnam, and the subsiquent studies concerning post-tramatic stress disorder(shell-shock), this book in it's incredable reading style portrays the almost insurmountable mental and physical challenges war presents for the young infantryman in modern combat. It is my opinion that the only way one can write so accuratley about such a subject is to have experienced it himself.
