No recipes for lunch...in a lunch cookbook!
I expected this book would contain recipes to pack for lunch. It doesn't. It has recipies for dinners and that's it. It does show you how you could pack the dinner as leftovers for lunch...but there are no instructions on how to actually do it. I might want to look at a picture of a Reuben salad, but I'd like it more if it actually told me how to make it. There was no sample available, so I took a chance. I highly regret it. What an absolute waste of money.

Title: Beating The Lunch Box Blues: Fresh Ideas For Lunches On The Go
Author: J M Hirsch
Publisher: Atria Books
Genre: Food And Wine
Tire of the same old brown bag lunch? Then pick up your copy of Beating the Lunch Box Blues and throw that old brown bag away and upgrade to something more interesting.
Starting with the knowledge that J M Hirch is a working mother and knows that you do not have hours to prepare your daily lunch so she gives your ways to prepare delicious lunches quickly and easily. An example would be that when making your dinner prepare extra so that you have more than enough for lunch the next day. She also gives you some cues as to what type of lunch box to buy.
The recipes for adult are on the assumption that adults have access to a microwave. The recipes for the children are with the thought that they will be eaten either cold or heated and placed in a thermos for eating later. Ms. Hirch provides a few cheat sheets for simple additions to take your lunch box meal up a notch with just a few additions or changes to a simple meal. Then we get to the recipes themselves. They are written in such a way that anyone form the youngest to the oldest cook can follow them easily.
The first up is one of my favorites, sweet and sour chicken. I have to tell you the flavor that comes out on this dish will have you drooling. and Then we have popovers to one of my family's favorite Left over thanksgiving sandwiches. Don't laugh these are to die for. So many simple ideas to make your lunch so much more than just a lunch meat sandwich. This is definitely a keeper for my kitchen's top shelf. The shelf where I keep the cookbooks I use the most.
