Elin Hilderbrand writes a book every summer, and I have read a few of them. With this book, she tackles a lighter subject, and in my opinion, it is her best to date. Hilderbrand has always excelled at making interesting characters and conversations, but the books were sometimes light in conflict and plot. With the wedding theme, the characters are forced to be together in one place, and that builds up suspense since many of them do not get along, to put it mildly. There are no crimes, diseases, or horrible secrets to be had--just a lot of lovers quarrels between couples, some of which survive and some that do not. Overall, the book paints a positive message about love and forgiveness that most people will find pleasing.

I would not recommend this book for everybody. Like most or all Hilderbrand books, it is very elitist. The characters are quite above average in terms of their money, education and success, and these accomplishments are often info dumped for no apparent reason. A good read though.

I really wanted to like this book. I had read a preview of it and was looking forward to its release. The only character I found likable was Griff and he wasn't even a main character.

Not as good as her earlier books

I have read all Elin Hilderbrand books and the Surfing Lesson (e-short story as prelude for Beautiful Day). I liked the book as lots of drama revolving around the Notebook which was left at the death of the bride’s mother; however, most of the book was about Margo the sister instead of the bride. I was hoping it would pick up from the Surfing Lesson but it jumped to wedding preparations. I thought the funny parts were about the father and in laws. There was a big build up for the secret from Margo which was not that big in the end. To be honest, I really like her older books better than her newer ones.

    Lots of wedding drama

I found it fairly easy to read & keep up with the characters, however it was rather strange to me. What dying mother would plan out a daughter's wedding & write it all down? And what free-spirited, ecology-minded girl would follow it-to a tee? Made the bride sound rather mindless.A teen may like this book, but a sophisticated woman would not.

    Fair

i thought this book was not as good as her previous ones. This is a story regarding a young girl's wedding & the planning & execution is dictated by her deceased mother through a diary she leaves behind. It also recounts the remarkable influence she exerted
over her family, especially her husband, during her lifetime. The events which follow
concern other aspects that develop & are somewhat interesting.

    a typical big family "Happening"

This book had a lot of warm fuzzy moments, the Mom leaving a notebook for her youngest daughter knowing she wouldn't be around to help her with her wedding plans...
However, it did drag on a bit too much...
Each family member seemed to find their way outof their doldrums by the end of the weekend. Therefore, a "Happily ever after" ending.
seems to always be lots of drama in big families and none was lacking in this story.
