    Highly recommended

Many years ago it occured to me that people who reject Jesus Christ, more often than not, reject the caricature that is presented to them. This caricature is created by centuries of religious tradition, superstition, and group dynamics. John Eldredge has written a book that sincerely, without rancor reveals the flaws of our religious thinking. He does this not to prove a theological point, but to introduce the real person Jesus Christ. If Christ is not all God, then we are lost. If He is also not all human, we are still dead in our sins, for the price has not been paid for lost humanity. This book asks us to consider the real Immanuel; God with us.

Like a splash of cold water on your face....

John Eldredge says things that I have only dared to think.

Like a splash of cold water on your face in the morning, Beautiful Outlaw, seeks to awaken you from the religious fog. A lifeline thrown to you. This book shakes the foundation of religiosity.

Matthew 7:20, "Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them." What is the fruit of this book for me?
I want to know Jesus better.
I want to reread the four gospels to see what Jesus shows me about his personality.
I want to break free of any religious fog that still surrounds me.
    I want to hear Jesus.
    I want to love Jesus.

In my opinion, a must read. Will you agree 100% with John Eldredge? No. Short of the Bible, we never do.
Does John Eldredge love Jesus? Yes, passionately.
Does he want you to find what he's found? Yes, desperately so.

I have found no other current day author willing to bare his soul as John Eldredge does in order to help you really find Jesus, know Jesus and love Jesus.

    more from this reviewer

    Very enlightening

This book was very well written. John does a great job of letting us know that Jesus is available and is not a distant God. In this book we are reminded of various instances in scripture of how Jesus acted. How he interacted with others and what he was facing during those times. The book really has some good examples that really allow the reader to relate. One of my favorite is the section where we are reminded that we have air and oxygen all around us and it is a wonderful thing, but if we don't inhale, it is worthless. We need to breathe in oxygen or we will die, regardless of all the oxygen around us. The same holds true for us with Jesus, just knowing him and being in church, singing and fellow shipping, is not going to help if we don't let him in our lives. To fully believe that you can have a relationship with him is exciting and provides so much hope. It really changes the way you approach each day.
