Inside the Mind of the Thin
This book uses cognitive psychology to help you lose weight. Cognitive psychology is based on the concept that the way you think affects how you feel and what you do. Cognitive therapy, then, helps you identify your self-defeating thinking and helps you respond to it so you can feel better and behave in helpful ways. Instead of leading you step-by-step through a diet plan, this book addresses the psychology behind why you can't get yourself to follow one and lose weight. In this book, you pick the diet (and an alternative as a back up), and the book helps you follow it.
The set-up of the book is a six-week plan. Week 1 is laying the groundwork, where you pick 2 diets. Week 2 is getting prepared to diet, Week 3 is starting the diet, Week 4 looks into responding to sabotaging thoughts, Week 5 is about overcoming challenges, such as staying in control when you go out to eat, and Week 6 is fine tuning things.
All-in-all, I'd have to say that its a great resource to address the psycholgical side of eating. There's no magic to it, just a little looking inside yourself and addressing any barriers you have that may be holding you back. Readers may also enjoy The Sixty-Second Motivator to address motivation issues as well.15 out of 17 people found this review helpful.

Before You Try Another Diet, Start With Your Mind
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy works and this book did a great job taking me through my self-defeating thought patterns. There are only a few books that I've personally found to competently address my emotional eating issues and Beck's book is a good primer, but I personally needed more. I've almost lost all the weight I gained over the past five years in a matter of about five months, thanks in part to this book. But what really made the difference was her workbook and another book called 'Body Esteem.' (I normally don't mention other books in my reviews, but in this case I think it may really help people out there). Beck did an excellent job with rational steps to take to changing my mental approach to eating, but it was with Body Esteem that I actually discovered the root of my behavior. I've read a lot of books and tried almost every diet on the planet, but I think the combination of these books is as good as it gets. Good luck and God bless.

Excellent Non-Diet Book For Real Weight Loss
In my opinion, The Beck Diet solution is right up there with Body Esteem in terms of quality and expertise. Judith Beck writes with honesty and compassion about the things that matter when it comes to weight loss. This is actually not a "diet book" and does not try to include a nutritional program or exercise. That's not necessarily a bad thing as there are many books that do an excellent job in these areas. Beck uses a very straight forward approach that is logical and deals with day-to-day issues as well as situational issues (like special occasions). It takes some work, but you really can retrain your mind and change your life.

Worked for me!
I have tried several diets, but this one is not only motivational, it is helpful in the sense that it doesn't make you feel foolish for past mistakes. This takes you on a day by day journey so you are not hit with too much information all at once. The author gives practical advise for every diet pitfall imaginable.
The book not only shows the reader how to lose weight, it shows how to eat healthier and recognize true hunger from emotional eating.
This is not a miracle diet in the sense that a lot of weight is lost in a small amount of time. This is a "slow and steady wins the race" kind of plan. Is it easy? No, but if followed, it is worthwhile. It shows that I can change my reasoning so I can think like a thin person.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has struggled with yo-yo dieting. It doesn't matter how much or little you need to lose, this book is a 6 week, life changing journey. I feel like I am letting a new life begin.1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

Beck Diet Solution on CD
I purchased the book on CD because I've tried reading the book by itself and just didn't get through it. There are exercises to do in it that help you change the way you THINK about food, which can truly be life changing - - but to work, you HAVE to complete the exercises. The book on CD was a great way to review in the car and without much effort (except to listen) to help get a new way of thinking about food into my mind. I recommend it for anyone who hasn't made it through the book by itself. It's a great way to re-start an effort to lose weight.

Change the way you THINK about food to change the way you eat
I was told about this book by my chiropractor, who'd used the techniques in it to lose 30 pounds and to keep OFF the weight. She hadn't looked THAT overweight when she started (at least not to me), but she looked fantastic when I saw her next and she credits the exercises she did in this book. So I purchased a copy for myself and, recently, for my sister (who struggles to lose weight). For gift giving, though, I recommend you know the person very well and discuss it with them first. I'm not trying to "fix" my sister, but we work at weight loss together and I think the techniques in the Beck Diet Solution are the ONLY time I've ever read about HOW to change the way you think about food in order to be successful at weight loss. I know my chiropractor was successful. I've had modest success. You can, too. But DO the exercises in the book. Getting them into the way you think involves spending time to do them.

This book is saving my life!
Judith Beck is a genius! I am still working through her book and have started back on the long path to fitness and good health already. This is a book you should internalize and keep with you whenever you feel the call of those evil chocolate brownies they are passing around the office. I even got up the courage to ask to have my desk moved at work so that I would not be staring at the frequent sugary goodies only two feet away all day. Out of sight, out of mind is just one of the many great tips Judith Beck imparts in her book.

An Absolute Must!
This is a must have book for a library. The Beck Diet Solution offers a way to fight the obstacles of weight loss before they get in your way. Judith Beck had written a book to work with the diet of your choice...teaching you how to deal with things that always get in the way of success.

Once and for all...
This is one of the best books I have ever read on dieting - and I`ve read a lot of them! I've tried many diets and I've not been able to stick to them. My problem has always been the inability to follow through on the diets and exercise plans. Now this book finally addresses the problems I've experienced. It talks about the psychological aspect of dieting. It suggests precise steps to take to overcome the psychological blocks. It helps the reader rebuke his own inner doubt. By reading this book I gained self-respect and self-awareness. Out of the whole plethora of diet books the only other title that I also highly recommend is "Can we Live 150 Years?" Again, this is less of a dieting book and more of healthy-life-style in general, and the author does not focus on dieting at all. But the results will surprise you. The chapter on Obesity is probably the best one ever written on this topic. These two books ("The Beck Diet Solution" and "Can We Live 150") will cure your overweight problem once and for all.

This is an interesting book--with some very solid, worthwhile points! A GREAT book that you should read, BEFORE you read any other fitness or diet books is, 'Build Your Mind, Your Body Will Follow', by Vincent Cocilovo (think I spelled it right). Excellent! Makes all other fitness books make more sense!

Finally!
This book addresses the exact issues I've always had with dieting ... the way I 'talk' to myself and the excuses and rationalizations I make to sabotage myself. This book has really helped me. I'm feeling much stronger this time as I try to buckle down on my eating. The techniques I've learned have really helped me follow my diet plan.

The Best Book I've read on the Subject
This is by far the best book I have ever read on dieting - and I have read a lot of them! I have tried every diet there is - and I have not been able to stick to them. I was always wondering why I had this block - this inability to follow through on the diet and exercise plans I would create. I would start Monday and end Tuesday. Now this book by Judith Beck finally addresses the mental blocks I experience. It discusses the psychological aspect, NOT THE FOOD ASPECT, of dieting. It suggests specific steps to take to conquer the blocks I create. It helps the reader fight back when her own voice is saying 'you can't do it'. I love this book and I KNOW it will help me! I have 30 pounds to lose, but I hope that by reading this book I gain self respect and self awareness. Thank you Judith Beck!!

The best non-diet book ever
I was intrigued by the concept of this book - that it doesn't teach you what to eat but how to eat and stick to your diet. After I picked it up, I read it cover to cover and I have to say, it more than delivers on it's promise. I truly think that armed with the skills from this book I'll be able to permanently keep off the weight I've lost.
