One of the best books I have read about post-partum depression. It can happen to any woman and none of us are alone. This book is like a hand being held out to the reader, encouraging her to not give up and to know that she is a wonderful human being and mother. Appendices with info for attaining more learning about PPD is great! Women are not left hanging. Like a guiding light, the 'where do I go from here' info was warmly there. Thanks to all those involved in making this book a reality.

Cheers to Marie for overcoming her demons

Behind the smile is perfect for new moms, especially anyone who has ever suffered from the Baby Blues or Post Partum Depression. Amazingly, Marie was able to inject humor into a story that for the most part is deeply sad. She explains that she does so as a writer because she realizes that those who are reading the book probably need an extra lift, something to lighten the day. I never experienced post partum depression, but having grown up in the 1970s with the Donnie & Marie Show and always thinking how nice it would have been to have been as pretty or as talented as she was and still is, I loved the book. I am always amazed to learn that someone like her has problems, just like the rest of us. I don't mean to say that I ever thought she was perfect. But I wouldn't have thought she felt intimidated by the female guests on the show or that she ever thought she was too fat, etc. It kind of puts things in perspective that we are all here on this planet and have our own set of obstacles to overcome, whoever we are, whatever they might be. Marie's story is inspiring, though, because she does overcome. She manages to make sure the show of life goes on, no matter what. Good for her! Includes clinical advice from Dr. Judith Moore making this book more than entertaining ... it could actually offer more than solid encouragement, but real nuts & bolts help for someone who is suffering from PPD.

All I have to say is 'Thank God' someone FINALLY wrote an HONEST book about PPD....THANK YOU MARIE! I suffered horribly for 6 months before finding the right doctor and right treatment. I have been through many things in my life.......but none being so severe and scary as PPD. Again...THANK YOU to MARIE and all the HONEST mothers out there who wrote their reviews telling their tragic story. May GOD bless you all in the often hard/frustrating yet BLESSED and BEAUTIFUL job of being a Mother. It truly is a blessing from GOD.

PPD is a trajic, debilitating illness that is suffered so greatly by many new mothers, including myself. Thankfully, Marie has given women permission, perhaps even courage, to speak about a disorder that causes so many women to feel so greatly isolated. In her book, 'Behind the Smile', Marie combines humor with sincerity to demonstrate exactly what a women suffering from PPD is really experiencing. Thank You, Marie!

FINALLY,SOMEONE ELSE OUT THERE HAS GONE THRU WHAT I WENT THRU.I THOUGHT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH ME AND THAT I WAS ALONE. I LOVED THIS BOOK.I TOO COULDNT PUT IT DOWN. IF ANYONE HAS EVER GONE THRU PPD, ITS A MUST READ.

PPD is not a requirement to savor this book

An insightful and candid look into both what it's like to live with depression and also the personal life of Marie Osmond. I couldn't put it down. The first line takes you right into the heart of her life. This is one of those books that had me laughing one moment and crying the next. Bravo Marie for your ability to relate to all women. We have a new spokesperson for women's issues and her name is Marie Osmond.

Beware of awakening the child within!

I had the pleasure of meeting Marie at a doll signing in Greensboro, NC. She was such a joy to watch interacting with eveyone. That may have added to my reaction to this book. I was already aware of the abuse from magazine articles that I had read. What I wasn't ready for was the vivid way she expressed the inner child she had denied all those years. It caused emotions to stir up from my past as well. Some hurts were identical to Marie's, I too, thought I was completely past them. But I've learned other wise, how else can I explain the shared tears. I do not have children so it can not be blamed on PPD. I would just like to thank Marie for her courage and send her my best wishes and GOD's blessing. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and could not put it down until I had finished it.

Someone so famous so human

I have been a Marie Osmond fan since she first began. I have always admired her style, her talent and the way she lived her life. Although, I do not wish pain or hardship on anyone. It's nice to find out that she is human too and shares problems just like the rest of us. The only complaint I have about the book was that it ended too soon. I wanted to continue reading.
