Although this is a well researched book, It is a little wordy. The author did a great job of bringing in other views and events surrounding the life which enhances the background of the bio. All in all, it is well done and very complete.

    Great read

Hard life in the early years molds one of the greatest of all time. Dodson gives us a great glimpse into the life and times of this icon. Really enjoyed it.

A great role model for anyone

All the things I learned about Hogan where tremendous, He was not just a greatbgolfer but a person and Mr. Hogan has changed the game forever and Dodson does a very good job on explaining the life that very few knew.

    more from this reviewer

    Hogan Still Facinates

Ben Hogan did not like the human race, but he was sometimes kind and fascinates for the integrity of his character as well as for the perfection of his golf swing. This is an in-depth and well written biography.

    An excellent biography

I enjoyed this book from cover to cover. James Dodson did an excellent job of researching the man and the legend. He not only delves into the golf professional but the man. I gained a greater appreciation for Mr. Hogan's work ethic and his personality.

    Superb

This is the best biography, and one of the best books of any kind, I have ever read. Dodson does a superb job of capturing Ben Hogan, the man, as well as Ben Hogan, the greatest golfer of his era, and arguably of all time. This is a great read for anyone with even a passing interest in golf.

    Very disappointing

This book is terribly written, and provides no real insight into Ben Hogan the man. The book was tied together very poorly. In one paragraph we are told that a friendship ended, a few later we are told the two had dinner together. However, my personal favorite was when we are told that one player never wins again, and the very next page we are told he won. All the author does is bring up a topic and suggest two alternatives. It appears that Dowson failed to do any real research when writting the book. I continued to read it in hopes it would improve, but alas it did not. Pick up the Sampson book instead.

    A Well Told Story

Dodson does a magnificent job of detailing the life of a legendary golfer both on and off the golf course. The writing is smooth and the story flows well. Hogan's feats on the links and his recovery from a devestating car crash are equally fascinating and inspiring. This is a great read.
