Enjoyable HodgePodge
The Best American Non-Required Reading 2008 was an interesting mix of fiction & non-fiction writings. I like these kind of books because quite a few of the essays I would have never read if it weren't all wrapped up in this book. The essay about Bill Clinton..I am not a reader of political essays and so if this had not been included, I would have missed out on a real eye-opener. I did not know about his tireless work esp regarding AIDS. I loved the short story about the rich strung out drug addict, too. It stayed with me for a few days. Compilations are a great way to open yourself up to new and different writiers!

This is a keeper.
I own and enjoy the entire series of Best American Nonrequired Reading. However, I do have to say that this is my favorite one so far. Every piece in this collection is good, which is rarely the case in any of the Best American series book. This one is tight and a must have for any library.
