Same Old Formula

Vincenzi is capitalizing on her time tested formula of throwing together unrelated characters into a common situation. This time it falls short. She needs to take a break and come back with something original and of the same quality as her earlier work.

    The Best of Times Review

The Best of Times was not the BEST book, but a quick and interesting read - I could not put it down as I needed to know what happened to the characters (who were extremely well developed - I felt as though I knew them personally!).

    Definitely worth reading.

Penny's Latest with a delightful cast of new characters!

I love Penny's books...great family sagas. This time a cast of unknown characters, are all involved in an emergency event, and how it changes all their intertwined lives. I always rush out and buy her latest on the day it is available. I have passed it around to reading friends, and all love it!

    Interesting

After learning who everyone was and what character they belonged to it became more interesting. The language was sometimes a little too raw.

    FANTASTIC!!!!

I have read several of her other books, but this is without a doubt, the absolute best book I have read in a very, very long time. (I read a lot) The way the characters and their individual stories all connect together is absolute genius. I read this book in two days. I only wish there could be a sequel. I loved it that much.

Life path changes in a second

Good story and characters. Dragged a little toward the end - maybe too much story?

    Another good Vincenzi book!

While I enjoy everything Penny Vincenzi writes, the trilogy books are still by far the best. I keep hoping the next book she writes will be as good as those three were. This book has a very different plot and Vincenzi always does such a good job of making her characters come alive. As many pages as her books have, I always hate to see them end.

    Enjoyable at half the pages.

I enjoyed the style of writing, though, as an American, I had to get used to the terminology used in a U.K. setting.
There was at least one character that I just wanted to smack, but I kept telling myself that I didn't need to like all of them. I think the book could have been written in half the pages. It was interesting to see the character's lives unfold, but it went on, and on, and on..... The longer I read, the lower the rating-it dropped at least one point because it could have been wrapped up much sooner.

    Just Okay

I read my first Vincenzi book a few years ago when I found An Absolute Scandal at a used book store. I absolutely loved that novel and I have read two more of her books since. However, I did not love The Best of Times like some of her other novels. It was enjoyable and entertaining but very forgettable. Some of her characters were likable but it lacked the depth and emotion that I have come to expect from her novels. All in all, it was just okay.

Not exactly "The Best of Times"

Bought this book immediately after seeing it on BN.com. Having never read this author before I expected more suspense in the telling and aftermath of the accident. It is a "light" read; a book suitable for vacation or a dreary day. The characters were just too predictable and the ending too pat for my taste. I'll pass the book along, but won't keep it to read again.
