    Paragon

Based on a ninja/assassin's aspect of life, for once in my life time I have finally encountered a trilogy that rivals J.R.R Tolkien's "the lord of the rings." Countless times I was astroprojected into the characters of the story, predominately Kyler and Durzo. The emotional oscillation with Elene and Vi was impeccable. Other than the fact that I couldn't be provided -even at the end when it was supposed to- the official unification of Kyler and Vi, the plot throughout the whole trilogy was brilliant. I just don't feel as though the gripping of the hands at the very end was enough. I wanted Kyler and Vi together sooner, or at least confirmation of their unity 'laughs' but all together. Fantastic story

    Brilliant, Period.

As a fan of J.R.R. Tolkien and a die- hard devotee of C.S. Lewis and "The Chronicles of Narnia", I can honestly say that the Night Angel Trilogy touched and inspired me in a way that I haven't known since Lewis. It is an awesome and satisfying finale to a superbly written story. When I finished "Beyond the Shadows" I sat silently for some time in order to digest and recover. It was incredibly unique, groundbreaking and that heart-stopping. I cannot express through words how highly I regard this piece of work. Thanks Brent.

    Good read...

But I was left wanting more maybe an extra character telling me what happens to them after, there could be other series with these same characters

    Truly Inspiring

This final Conclussion to the Night Angel Trilogy is by far one of the most griping and emotional endings to a series i have ever read. It is definetly the greatest piece of literature ive read in a long time, and i strongly believe you'll feel the same way. Even though the ending is bitter-sweet, this novel will definetly bring about the conclussion we all hope for in a trilogy.

    I Also Recommend:

    Action Packed Finale

The intricate plot is the main character of the final book. All the characters take a backseat except for, perhaps, Dorian who finally finds himself and is then forced to watch as survival and necessity chip away first at his ideals and then at all of his hopes and desires. The female characters seem flat, even the female assassin, who had started off with so much promise. Myriad events and ancient secrets culminate to reveal the Godkings' religious origins. The plot-driven characters, however, are left somewhat hollow, while the plot ends satisfyingly well. For those who read the first two of the series, this is a must read. The action is well worth your time.

    I Also Recommend:

    Notable Trilogy Finale

This multilayered conclusion is a must read ending for anyone who started this series. The story lines intricately twist and intertwine. The pace is fast and gradually escalates until reaching the decisive battle. The action ranges from individual contests/killings to full scale war. The plot is comprehensive and complex; but, that complexity deprives the story of a recognizable protagonist and blunts the pathos and intimacy seen in the earlier books. Characters seem to serve the plot, rather than the plot unfolding around the characters. With the exception of the new Godking Wanhope, (aka Dorian), the primary characters are flattened and somewhat stereotyped. Even Kylar and Durzo lose individuality. Logan becomes rigid, hypocritical, unsympathetic and remote. Only Dorian's character is expanded, and his spiral from unavoidable violence into remorseless practicality culminating in unrepentant brutality is fascinating. I'm particularly disappointed that the few primary female characters are marginalized and/or made overly subservient and self-sacrificing.

    Great story but....

I love the fact that Brent has the creative ability to create his own world and share it with his readers and I wouldn't want to take that away from him. I truly enjoyed the stories.

My major critique is with his use of frivolous swearing - seriously, Brent you're a writer... use your vocabulary! It doesn't add anything to the story; doesn't make it more exciting. It's just distracting!

    Awesome!

This was a fantasic conclusion to an amazing trilogy. I could not have been happier with this story. The Night Angel trilogy is a must read for any fan of fantasy or just great writing. Brent Weeks is now my favorite author, and i can not wait to read Perfect Shadow in june. I really hope he does more with this series later, till then I'm gonna read his new Lightbringer series.

    Too many F*Bombs again

Honestly, as an adult, I do hear the f*word, even in regular conversation with my colleagues. This book has interesting characters, and some got raped, one or two are gay. But, really do we need to see the f*word so often?

If this doesn't bother you, then the you'll probably enjoy it. The characters are well developed, and the pace of the action quite good. It was easy enough to get engrossed in the multiple story-lines.

I won't write any spoilers here, but there were a couple if unexpected twists, and while the good guys took out the bad guys, there was still a melancholy ending.

    Fantastic read =D

I was sad when I put down the book. The trilogy was amazing and I loved every bit of the book from the start of the first book to the last page of the last book. I do wish there could be a knowing of what happened to Kylar(Azroth) and his new love. I mean it makes me wonder if they will have a child as well as Durzo's daughter. Who knows.. It was one heck of a great book to read. I really do hope to read a lot more of Brent Weeks books ASAP. =P

All the laughing and excitement put in this made me so glad to read a book such as this. Havn't laughed like it about a book in a long time. =]

    An Excellent Trilogy

A satisfying and even surprising end to a very enjoyable fantasy trilogy. I've already given away all my print copies of these books for someone else to enjoy (and they've already finished reading them). The whole series is highly recommended for its character-driven approach, cinematic events, and rich plotting. Really terrific stuff, and I'm looking forward to more tales from author Brent Weeks.

Great Ending to a Great Series

I have to admit when i picked up the first book i was a bit skeptical. Judging by the cover and the title, i though it would be a story of an assassin and his killing spree. I was about to call it quits after the first couple of pages. I am glad that i continued to read what Weeks had to offer. A compelling story with many twists, unique writing style and unforgetable characters. It's intersting on how all the subplots came together in the end. I'm hoping Weeks doesn't forget about all these characters and comes back with another great story.

    A Thrilling Conclusion

Beyond the Shadows is a thrilling conclusion to the Night Angel Trilogy. Putting the characters aside, the plot does indeed take the main role, as every loose end in the previous two books is tied. Everything comes together with a fantastic battle and a twists that you do not see coming.

The lack of character development in this book is not a bad thing, as the reader should already be familiar with the characters by this point in the story. The biggest development was that of the relationships between all the characters.

My only complaint was that the actual end of the book, after the battle is slightly sappy (not a terrible thing, just was oddly out of place in this series) and seemed slightly rushed.

It does leave the story open for sequels, and I hope Brent Weeks revisits these characters for more of their adventures. I will be there to read them all.
