Magical and Lyrical
Kirkus Reviews wrote of Rita Murphy's newest novel Bird:"Echoes of Hawthorne's House of Seven Gables run through this tale, which abounds with literary allusions. While even precocious child readers may not hear them, they will adore the setting, Miranda's soaring, literary voice and the dreamy fantasy-meets-reality plot." Were they ever right! This is one book that will take your breath away. Like Murphy's debut novel "Night Flying", the metaphor of freedom and captivity are explored in a beautiful and lyrical narrative and the metaphor of flight is taken to a new and quite different level.

The character and plot move so seamlessly and the ending was such a surprise, I found myself surprised and captivated by the every page of the narrative. I am 46 years old and I have to say to readers out there THIS IS NOT JUST A TALE FOR YOUNG FOLKS! I was delighted and charmed by this book and to has much to say about learning how to use the gifts you have given and to "let the wind take you to your perfect destination". This book is a Winner!!!! -
