Black and Blue is a action-packed story filled with twists to keep you turning the page. This is the second installment in the Otherworld Assassin series. This is the first book I've read in this series and must go back to read the first. The novel builds a world entangled with humans and supernaturals in a post alien war Earth. We have dark ops, kidnapping, torture and explosions. Then, add in a healthy dose of steamy sex, you have a book you can't put down. Proven by the one-and-a-half days it took me to finish the book.

Evangeline (Evie) Black is a woman to be reckoned with. She is smart, direct, and dangerous. Evie is an interesting mix of a girl born with a silver spoon and a survivor. She hides behind a hard exterior to protect herself from the pain of rejection she has been subjected to growing up with a not-so-caring mother and an absent father. I like that Evie speaks her mind and isn't afraid to show her intelligence, even though at times her confidence gets her in lots of trouble.

Corbin Blue is an interesting hero. At times, it seems he wavers between being an alpha male and a big sack of sappiness. He's tough and vicious, a trained assassin, and the ultimate connoisseur of the female race. On the surface, Blue seems like a gigolo with a gun, but as we learn more about Blue we see he's seeking something more...love. Blue acts the way he does to hold on to the love of the few people he trust in his life, the others in the secret ops team he's a member of. Blue is funny, smart and a bit of an ass. But I like him like that.

The connection between Blue and Evie is smokin hot. It takes them a while to get over their issue to come together but it's definitely steamy when it happens. I like to initial love/hate  tango of their relationship. Only thing I could have done without is the pet names Blue like to use.

Black and Blue is a fast paced steamy read. Definitely worth the time.

Evangeline Black. Corbin Blue. Yes, Black and Blue. Corbin is part of the Otherworld Assassins team and he’s kind of the playboy. The card they use when seducing a girl to get ahead in the mission is required. Evangeline is Michael’s daughter. She grew up thinking her father didn’t love her as much as the men he rescued from terrible pasts and made part of his team. She’s been determined ever since to prove her worth as part of the organization until tragedy strikes too close to home.

I’m always a sucker for stories about forbidden love and this is no different. Corbin owes Michael everything. He took him in when he would’ve had no hopes for a future. Gave him a purpose and a life. And the one rule is that none of the guys are to get close to his daughter. Not in that way. But Corbin’s never been able to stop his attraction to her.

The explosion and attack on the assassins that we already saw in LAST KISS GOODNIGHT is a game changer. It brings Evie back in the game and Corbin impossibly close to her. And in that close proximity sparks are bound to fly.

Parts of the story in BLACK AND BLUE happen at the same time as book one in the series, and fill in some gaps in the storyline. It was interesting to see more of the dynamics between the guys in Michael’s team.

And then there’s Corbin and Evie. These two have incredible chemistry. The sexual tension is sky high, their banter is witty and when they finally come together? Explosive! I loved reading about them and seeing them work together, because yeah, they make an awesome team as well.

There are things they both have to get over and I liked that they didn’t throw caution to the wind. Evie knows part of Corbin’s job description is that he may have to sleep with women involved in a case. Corbin knows the man he respects most in life warned him away from his daughter. Their intentions have to be clear and serious before they take that final step.

I have to say that as much as I love a good bad boy, with blonde hair, pretty eyes and oh yeah, other than being a sexy assassin he’s also a sports celebrity (that’s his cover) totally yummylicious! But I also have to mention how much I liked Evie. She’s the type of kick ass chick I love to read about, tough but vulnerable. Prickly on the outside, but mush on the inside. LOVE IT!

But enough about them! The storyline in this book is even more engaging than the first one. Corbin is trying to find his teammates after the explosion, trying to stop whoever is trying to kill them all. Trying to find the missing Michael.

If you are not reading Gena Showalter and you love paranormal romance, then you are missing out! She can rock a story like no other.
