Good fantasy series, too long between books.

The only minor complaint I had about this book -- and it is very, very minor, considering -- is that I started this series in 2001 when one books was out with the understanding it was a trilogy. In 2003, I read book two. Four years later, in 2007, the 3rd book came out, and as awesome as it was, I was so relieved the series was only a trilogy, because 4 years between books in a series is a long friggin wait! So you can imagine my disappointment and dismay when I realized it was changed to a longer series, but everyone said it would be wrapped up in Book 4, so I dug in as a faithful fan and waited eagerly. Surely Book 4 couldn't take that long to write; apparently Book 3 had just been too long, so she split it half (so I heard) -- so I expected it any day. Five years later, in 2011, the 4th book is released. And it ends on a cliffhanger.

Now, I'm not unhappy that there will be more of Karigan and Zachary and everyone. But the plots and threadlines developed here -- I'm seeing at *least* another two books to wrap everything up, likely more -- and I can't help but feel disappointed. Not at the books -- at the long wait ahead. I mean, 4-5 years between books? That means Book 5 in maybe, what, 2016 or 2017? Book 6 in 2021- 2023?

Not as great as the rest but still good

I was a bit let down by this book. The jumping around made some the the newer characters are hard to follow. and the ending left more questions than answers. Also knowing that we wont learn what happens for three to four years is difficult.

dont bother unless you are prepared to wait another 3-4yrs

another let down, a shame because the books are not that bad, its a shame that we have to wait for awhile for the next installement. so unless you are prepared to wait that long, I suggest you dont waste your time on these books. i know i wont be purchasing her next one unless i know its the end... but unlikely from what i read so far... more books to come, just how long do we have to wait between them, begs the queation - no stars this time.

    Disappointed

Yes, I am one of many who waited a long time for the next 'episode'. I love all the characters and their own developing storylines, but this book jumped around a bit too much. One pattern that I'm seeing some of the books,is that storyline and its progression always seem to become vague during the climax. This sticks out the most since everything that leads up to it all is very clear and engaging. I find myself annoyed, skipping pages during what is supposed to be those big moments. The white spirit world doesn't quite work here and seems too vague and transitional to be used as a pivotal tool.

On a different level, (one that is purely fan-based), I'm a bit disappointed with the relationship that is not destined to be. I found myself eagerly anticipating this book to find some resolution (one way or another) between Zachary and Karigan, but the stale motion within this installment has left me indifferent, or even turned off.

I should've waited for paperback or the nook version. The hard cover was a HUGE waste of money.
