A part in this story that most affected the whole book is the river scene, in this scene there are 4 main people involved Brodie, Alex, Pauline, and Otis. With a quick glance from shore Broadie could see his crush that he was expecting to take to the movies with an arch enemy Brodie doesn't think and swam through the water as if he had a mission. As he approached the toad stool to startle them he grabs Pauline's leg and pulls. She screeches with scare dome and yells on the other end Otis starts pulling and suddenly Brodie stops pulling and Pauline and Otis take plummet to the water. Quickly Brodie swam to shore scared that Otis will catch him, but as he was almost ashore he sees Alex looking and pointing to turn back, so that's what Brodie did and he could only see the top of heads being pulled down under the Blackwater. What happens next? You will have to read to find out. This scene would have to be my favorite part.Show Less

Blackwater Author: Eve Bunting
Blackwater is a book of adventure, suspense and tragedy. Our story takes place in the little town of Rivertown, CA home of the Blackwater River this is where most of the story took place.

its ok
I don't think it's as good as most of the reviews say, but it wasnt bad. It just feels like it's more for younger kids than teens. Even with that being said, I couldn't stop reading. The whole time i kept thinking how i wish Alex would get punched in the face, that little demon seed. I would recommend this book to just about anyone.

An Amazing Book!
Black Water is truely an amazing book! It's written with intensity and keeps you on your feet for every single chapter. The main character's name is Brodie, he falls in love with a girl named Sharline but she likes this boy named Otis. One day Brodie finds them two kissing on a rock they call the toadstool and he pulls a prank that changes his life forever. I normally don't read that much but this book is one of the best I've read.

awesome and has lot of suspense
13-year-old Brodie Lynch and his friend were planning a great summer full of camping. Then Brodie met this girl and he was planning to go to the movies with her this summer. He figured they had a relationship, but then things changed. Brodie's cousin came to stay the summer and he knew his cousin would get a little annoying, so they kind of had t change their plans Brodies dad wanted brodie to spend his summer with his little cousin. So Brodie told his friend that his cousin was staying this summer and they just said 'forget about it maybe next summer or maybe I could a way out of it' but that did really work at lest for a while. There is the river and a lake and brodie went with his cousin to go swim and actually teach him how to swim when things twist brodie sees the girl he like and who he thought he had relationship with her. But he sees her with this guy named Otis and he gets... well jealous and tries to pull a prank when his prank isn't just a prank anymore... His prank was just swimming under the toadstool and scaring Otis and the girl and it turned out to be more then a prank it leads to death well there aren¿t sure In¿ till then end and ever one thought brodie was a hero and there was someone how saw a he doesn¿t know who. Brodie also isn¿t the hero he only tried saving them so he didn¿t get in trouble but then he couldn¿t save them¿¿¿.. well maybe read to find out!

Great book horrible ending
Im 13 and I thought this book taught a valuble lesson in life. And i like the main characters broddie and alex. I loved the suspence and the book till the end i felt like it just left u hanging there and the author should have wrote another chapter or two to finish it without letting the readers hang.

This book was ok but not a favorite.
I liked this story because of the suspense. I thought the characters were a little boring. I would like to have heard more about the other characters lives and feelings. Overall, I thought the book was average.

Interesting
This book was really good, yet still not up to the very high standards I set for the books I read. The ending was so sudden, they missed all of the end of the story. Gee, was I mad. They should have written what happened after when Broydy turned himself in! Overall, though, it was a good book. Well done Eve Bunting, couldn't have done better myself

disappointing novel of american literature
I thought this book was a disappointing novel of american literature. The ending of this book was unacceptable. The only reason I read the book was because my teacher made me, and to see if there was a picture of Pauline. The author did a horrible job of a conclusion. In my personal, professional opinion this book is not worth reading only because of the final pages. Everything made it exciting and attention grabbing before the last few chapters, and at the end, you feel like the book let you down. If you are bored and the television is not currently working, read this book.

Greatest Book Ever
I love the book Blackwater by:Eve Bunting I love this book so much because you don't want to put it down. yes, it's that good! The summer started out great for Brodie Lynch It all started at the last day of school when Pauline, the girl he has a crush on said yes to him asking her if she wanted to go to the movies 9 times. Then all of a sudden when-ever he got home his mom told him that his cousin Alex was comming to visit for the summer and that made everything to go wrong. He new that with his little cousin he would have to do everything with him and he did not like that thought. The day after Alex came Brodie decided to teach him how to swim, so they went to the swimming hole to teach Alex how to swim. exept when they got there They saw Otis with his yucky arm around Pauline, and they were talking. That made Brodie jelouse so he decided to go over there, and they didn't even notice him until.....................
