The Blue Bistro is a fine dining restaurant located on the beach of Nantucket. This is a complex and emotional story about the owners, Thatcher Smith and Fiona Kemp and a girl, Adrienne, running from a drug addicted ex boyfriend who stole her money. Thatcher, a conflicted character, loves Fiona deeply, as a friend, but his love runs so deep that this unique friendship has interfered with his past love interests. Fiona suffers, since childhood, from Cystic Fibrosis. She is on the list for a lung transplant.
Adrienne has been working all over the world in the hotel industry. Adrienne is hired by Thatcher to run the front of the restaurant.
Love grows between Adrienne and Thatcher. Every night when the Blue Bistro closes Thatcher and his partner chef Fiona share dinner in the kitchen where she hides from society, which leaves Adrienne confused until she finds out the truth about her "rival" and why the Blue Bistro will close after this summer. Exciting, interesting read!

I started reading this book only a few nights ago and was really enjoying it until I got to the very end. So as not to ruin it for others, I'll just say that what happened in the end was not believable and not necessary and quite frankly left me asking 'why??', and the last page itself - given who the characters were, I expected more - I expected some emotion, some gusto. There wasn't any! Very disappointing ending.

    Beach read

It was a nice relaxing read the only thing that bothered me was EH has obviously never met or even truely reasearched Cystic Fibrosis. It was nice at first to see an author that would have a cf character but once i saw she knew nothing about Cystic Fibrosis it just made me upset.

I loved this book up until about the last forty pages. The author decides to throw in one sentence that should make for a plot twist, but it was completely ignored. There was no point in adding in that little detail. The ending of the book also didn't make sense. I agree with other posters that it should been elaborated on a little more. Even though the book was a good read, if I had known it would end the way it did, I would never have read it.

    more from this reviewer

    Enjoyed her other books more

I found the book pretty boring. A lot a description of food and nightly restaurant routine. I got the point the first night and didn't need the same things repeated over and over (seating people, making reservations, cooking food, etc. Plot was an interesting idea, but needed more focus on the charcaters. I am still a Hilderbrand fan. Summer People and Castaways are my two favorite books by her.

    Loved it!

I couldn't put this one down. I see restaurants through different eyes now and long for a dining experience like the Blue Bistro! A beautiful story of friendship and love.

    Not in very good condition.

Front cover was very worn, dirty and rumpled. inside page had a piece torn almost all the way out of the book. binding was pretty worn.

still enjoyed reading the book, but was not in the condition i expected it to be (which is why i chose this one).
