    Loved It

I already knew about Marion Meade from reading her other books so this one was a bonus. Marion has the ability to take you by the hand and make you feel as though you're living in the world that she's writing about. I bought the book mainly because of Dorothy Parker and in the process learned more about the other women. I've done a lot of research on Dorothy Parker and every single time Marion's name comes up as being the best authority about her life. She doesn't disappoint.

My reaction... Essentially a re-hash of material this writer has provided elsewhere. Well researched, extraordinarily detailed. Good synopsis in one place on multiple authors. Not a lot on Zelda Fitzgerald, but more on F. Scott. Honestly, either because I have read much about these authors previously or the book was getting bogged down by the end, I started to lose interest, skim passages & eventually put it down without getting out of it what I was expecting... a little more exuberance, tying together of the times & various authors. Surprising amount of detail & sometimes piecing together of an author's activities in a day.

excellent bio of four wild writers

Bobbed Hair and Bathtub Gin by Marion Meade

This is a great book depicting writers of the twenties. I love the work of Edna St Vincent Millay, Dorothy Parker, Zelda Fiztgerald, and Enda Ferber, but even more exciting is reading about the authors themselves. They lived wild, unconventional lives and understanding them, brings more understanding to their work.
Meade moves back and forth between the different writers, moving from year to year in the twenties. This reads more like a novel than a biography and is well-written. It's really four biographies in one, but leaves out the usual dull stuff. I very much enjoyed this and recommend for anyone that is looking for a great non-fiction read and loves reading about writers!

    Finished it in 9 Days!

Bobbed Hair and Bathtub Gin is a wonderful read. These four women and Meade are highly ahead of their time. my favorite chapters were about Edna Ferber. If it's rainiing outside and you're not in the mood to leave your house, this book is for you.
