    Satisfactory Reading

Bookends is a cute and charming novel. The storyline isn't anything special and the story itself seemed to drag a little. It's a nice read if you don't have anything else in mind to flip through.

    Exciting!

A good summer read, very light and delicious. I would recommend it for high school/collage girls who look for something to pass time with while tanning. There¿s nothing to be learned from the story, however it is something you cannot put down once you¿ve started it. The story is exciting, it only gets predictable in the last few chapters.

    Good, Not Great

I'm a big Jane Green fan, but this latest novel of hers in my opinion lost it's intrigue too early on in the story. Portia's re-entry into her college friend's lives promised more shenanigans than an episode of Melrose Place--but in the end, her presence doesn't make much difference one way or another. Her old friends find themselves on their own, without Portia as a catalyst. I also wonder why the poor gay man in every chick lit novel always has to end up with AIDs or some other life-threatening illness. This is the third time I've seen this phenonemon, and I think it's turning into a disturbing cliche.

    Three And A Half Stars

When I first picked up 'Bookends,' for some reason I thought it would be a You've Got Mail type of story, where a man and woman meet in a bookstore and fall in love. I was wrong the moment I read the first page. The book starts out slow with main character, Catherine Warner, and her friends Simon Nelson, Portia, Joshua, and Lucy who all meet in college. Since college their lives change sometimes for the better or sometimes for the worst. Catherine and Lucy, open a successful bookshop titled 'Bookends.' After the bookshop opens, Catherine, has a better dating life. For some unclear reason, I wasn't really into reading this book. If you are interested in reading 'Bookends' just rent it out at your local library.

    Okay, but not great

I love Jane Green, but I am hugely disappointed with this particular book. It started out okay, but there was not much focus on romance, and it became way too serious, (not to mention sad), towards the end. Not one of her best.
