This series keeps getting better.  I am sure that the events that put FBI Special Agent David Harris in a wheelchair took place in a book in The Calling series (which I have yet to read).  It didn’t make much difference to this story.  FBI Special Agent Diana Reyes is sent to the park with her best friend FBI Forensic Pathologist Maggie Gonzalez to find out what tore a victim to pieces.  While on scene Maggie is attacked by something big and furry.  ADIC Jesus Hernandez assigns Diana’s former partner FBI Special Agent David Harris to assist in tracking down the perp.  Things get complicated right away because David and Maggie used to live and love together before his accident and he still blames Diana for not telling him the whole truth about what happened.  Despite this they work together to and eventually find that there are lots of things out there that go bump in the night.  This was a terrific PNR.  Sexy, sweet and suspenseful.

    A 5 Star read! Read.This.Book!

Caridad Pineiro has once again delivered another fabulous installment in her Reborn series. This book is even better than the previous two! She has expanded the world in which she has created by introducing us to the shapeshifter community.

Ryder and Diana are back – they are now married and are trying to adjust and find a balance in their lives. With Diana’s pregnancy, Ryder is even more overprotective, but as much as he knows losing her would kill him, asking her to give up her job would but be just as fatal to Diana.

We also get to find out more about David and Maggie. David was injured in the raid three years prior, the same one where Diana was infected with Ryder’s blood, and he is now confined to a wheelchair. David has not been able to forgive Diana and he has also put an end to his relationship with Maggie. While investigating a murder in Central Park, Maggie gets bitten by a werewolf and is now destined to become one herself. David stands by Maggie, but he still cannot bring himself to reconcile with the man he has become since his injury.
“He hadn’t realized before now, just how fine an edge they walked – or rather, she walked and he rolled…Even though he had moved out of their shared apartment and ended their romantic involvement, there was something still connecting them.
But he sensed the precariousness of it. How they both seemed to be waiting for one of them to slip and send whatever remained of their emotions – of their love – crashing down.”
Maggie still believes that she and David are meant to be together, and will do anything to make David see that she loves him for the man he is, not the man who he thinks he has become.
“For just as Diana had been born to love Ryder, Maggie knew without a doubt that she had been born to love David.
Diana already had her happily ever after.
Only time would tell whether Maggie would have hers.”

When the murder investigation introduces them to the shapeshifting community and Maggie is brought together with the sexy werewolf firefighter named Rafe who was responsible for turning her into a werewolf, things start to heat up. Even though he has no claim on Maggie, David can’t seem to keep his jealousy at bay while Rafe helps the team investigate the murders and track down the half-breed werewolf responsible for several attacks/murders.
“Maybe it had occurred to him in a more reasonable part of his brain, but seeing her reaction to the handsome firefighter had shut off logic and kicked in the caveman who wanted nothing more than to grab Maggie and haul her back to his lair.”

Even faced with the possibility of losing Maggie, David can’t get past his injury and his perceptions of the man he has become.
“She took a step toward him. ‘After you were hurt, you didn’t think I could possibly still love you.’
‘Because you fell in love with someone else. Someone who didn’t exist anymore. Who still doesn’t, he ground out, naked emotion in every word.”

As the murder investigation escalates and lives are put in danger, will Maggie and David find their way back to one another, or will Rafe steal Maggie’s heart? Will Diana risk her pregnancy and Ryder’s love trying to protect her friends?

I loved this book. Between the murder investigation, the love triangle, and the issues that have developed in Ryder & Diana’s marriage, this story had a fast pace that was very well written and kept me saying…”just one more chapter and then I swear I’ll start dinner!” The world Caridad Pineiro has created just keeps on getting better and better, and she continues to spotlight supporting characters so we stay updated on them as well.

Read. This. Book. Read all of the books in this series – you’ll be so happy you did!

Yet another winner from Caridad Pineiro!  I love this series and can’t wait to read more. I love how everyone is brought into the story rather than just focusing on the two main characters.   I would recommend this series to anyone looking for a read that will keep you involved and waiting breathlessly for the next book.
