This had some GREAT stories and a few I didn't get. Overall I think most people who like scary stories will really enjoy these stories. I have also read Sex in the time of Zombies which was the same, a few great stories and then a few not so great! Mr. Rose keep writing they will only get better! ******Spoiler I Eat the dead started out great, but towards the end it started to lag. I would have liked Mr. Rose to talked about the change in the behavior of the "feeder" more, why did she become unhappy? Did she sense the end was near and she would need a new eater? I liked the description and how the souls weren't pleasant to consume, that was a original! Breeder- I liked this. I think many of us wonder why people cut themselves I thought this was a great theory. It was very realistic and I liked how he explained the turmoil the girl was going thru. Shadow of the Woodpile was very disturbing, I had a hard time reading this. Mr. Rose did an excellent job on this story, at first you hate Billy but at the end you feel sorry for what happened to him. It was interesting because Mr. Rose took a child who already was disturbed, then sexually abused making a bad situation even worse. Pickman's Next Top Model was okay, what I didn't understand, was why she still had a stalker, if the spell they were casting was working, it should have gotten rid of him as well. Writing Home, this story was just terrible, I didn't get it at all. Mr. Rose migh want to re-visit this and flush it out more. The Haunting of the Mines was sad but a good ghost story. The Blood Shed I didn't get, needs to be fkushed out more. Cooking with Grace was good, but predictable, you could see what was coming, I would have liked more of a twist, but it was a good story. Every Night is Halloween again I didnt quite get this, yeah he is being punished, but is it only on Halloween or every night? If it is every night, then it would all have to be in his head so I don't understand why he would age? Also he killed his son while he was asleep in bed, so I don't understand the costume. The Winter Experiment this started out great, however I didn't get the ending. This man is on the 17th experiement and now the Yuki-onna decides to kill him? Mr. Rose why now? What causes the Yuki-onna to go after the hand that is feeding her. Why knowing what he knows about the Yuki-onna didn't he make sure he had safe guards, example sailors plug thier ears to foil sirens. The Test of Darkness I thought was an excellent story. Mr Rose did a fantastic job of portraying a teenage girl obessed with vampires. I could picture Sara, feel her longing and frustration. I think this was the best story. Was very real! Revisited was a great story but sad. I liked how Slade tried to meet Sara again, that was smart, it was sad how it ended, I don't think Sara saw him as special as he saw her. Losing control started great, and was very interesting, how ever I didnt like the ending. This people do this job and they wouldnt think to test a "whisk" to make sure that nothing was brought back? I just didn't think that added up. They know all this other stuff, have all this great pre-cautions, but they don't think that maybe something could follow or latch on to a Whisk?

    Nothing scary here

Most of the stories seemed disjointed. I didnt find any of them scary in the least. It was as if the author wanted us to think that lunacy was the same thing as being scared. I am deleting from my library.

Most of the stories made me say why ? The motivations of the charactors were unclear. Also a couple felt like a tales from the crypt rip offs. Every other sentence was similes. At different points in the stories he used "flash back to" as if he'd been wrighting a script or was an old time narrator on a radio program, but not in a good way. It was not very good, but I've read worse. And it was free. Also no weird spelling/grammer issues so he must've put time and effort and thought into the stories which is why I gave it two stars.

    Liked most

The author is certainly impressive. I enjoyed most of the stories and it was nice to read horror that had something of nostalgic feel to it. Horror is my go to genre so im sure ill be looking for more from this author.
